Don't you just hate being force fed intros?

Recommended Posts

I've been playing Band of Comrades Episode 1, online with friends. It's the best co-op mission I've played so far and has a stunning opening intro. Problem is it's very hard and after the inveitable deaths we restart and have to listen to the same intro again because there is no option to skip it. Man if I hear that russian track one more time, I'm gonna scream smile.gif

Well such is life, iirc Blake the author of that mission (I think?) has been hoping for a change in the way they can be coded to make them skippable.

Moving to MP.

There are some MP missions out that skip intros on keypress. So technically it shouldnt be a problem.

I Agree, personally though i prefer a shorter intro and have any longer video scenes as cutscenes within the mission as a "reward" for getting an objective done.

I get fed up with the whole cinematics thing anyway. Trouble is most places mark you down if you submit a mission without an intro, but I get really fed up of watching 5 minute long jerky, badly spealt intros. Surely the mission is what we're there for? The missions I make for my friends and I tend to have no intros at all, but well thought out, concievable objectives that allow the maximum interactive gameplay possible. I'm routinely dissapointed by a lot of user-made missions, not because of lack of skill, but purely for the lack of meat to get your teeth into.

There's a mission in the original campaign where you basically have to patrol into a valley to take out one or two bases. That was a superb mission, lots of hiking over rocks and through forests and regular skirmishes with enemy patrols. Now it seems most missions are either a case of throwing as many ppl at each other as possible (and watching while the PC's grind to a halt) or as a showground for something new...

*Breaths*

I appear to have been ranting, I shall go lay down and take my dried-frog pills.

Have to agree with you, Fenris. I haven't downloaded a user made mission in months. Simple clear objectives that require team work = immersion.

Not: "you start here, the twelve russian platoons are coming from the east, behind you is an ammo crate with 50 laws."

Cinematics stuck before or during a mission are a reminder that its 'just a game'.

How about spending more time on briefings (including sat photos etc)?
