VON is intirely it. But hopefully they will use that server as a coop only server and put one up on linux w/ no addons for a CTF server.

yep the server is still alive and kicking biggrin.gif people are on most weeknights starting at around 9:30pm EST, and at varying times during the weekend. busiest times are on friday, saturday, and sunday nights. even if the server is not full, there are many new addon maps and excellent coops made for eighteen all the way down to two players, so regardless of how many people are on, you can always find an excellent and often custom made coop to enjoy biggrin.gif

FragHaus is better than ever smile.gif

We chose DPlay because of VON. If BIS would enable VON on Sockets we would switch to it.

However, I can tell you that FragHaus DPlay is probably faster and more stable than most on Sockets... we have more bandwidth and awesome servers to pump it out. (no offense to other servers intended).

It is not as simple as "enabling" it.

VON was part of DirectPlay. BIS will need to create a new voice software to integrate into sockets, as sockets netcode was created from the ground up.

so how would one "enable" VON on the client side?? I don't see options.

I was on the server Wednesday and was a bit out of the loop wo/ VON enabled. Good games, good cooperation. I like the atmosphere on the new server, not so many idiots like on the 1.46 (actually non all 5th and Hit Squad). If i could have talked to everyone it would have been that much better.

I also like the fact that you guys use some of these awsome addons that the community is making. Way to put up a high quality OFP server. Keep up the good work.

What would be wrong w/ me on there?

Anyway, glad you like the coops on there. Some of them was just missions from the 1985 campaign that I dpboed and used the addons before I found out avon did the same thing  wink.gif

Note: 1.9 fixes the Direct play bug!

Teamspeak fellas, very good comms proggy, and has as much if not more flexibilty as VON, AND has the added bonus of not having to listen to nOOb's talkin sh*t and playin music etc etc...We have a Teamspeak1 server set up and you can change channels ingame just like VON, in fact you can have something like 8 different channels, and it's free!! and far better than RW!..ser clear of Teamspeak2 for the moment it still has a few bugs that need ironing out. Oh and yes i did used to have some great times on Fraghaus servers back in the 1.46 days biggrin.gif compliments to you....

I've just been thinking...

Maybe Suma could answer this:

When sockets was introduced, did it replace Directplay entirely, or did it replace a layer of Directplay?

If sockets was implemented to provide functions in the network code that Directplay could not offer, then was it designed to work with Directplay?

If Directplay is still running and sockets replaces a layer of Directplay, optimizing the options that do not give the best performance in a game such as OFP, then VON can be enabled at some point without creating new voice software for sockets.

I am quite aware of that.

Gheesh... I have probably posted about them 'ADDING' VON functionality to Sockets more than anyone. It has been my biggest push along side them adding a Linux port.

I merely said 'enable' as a term... I wasn't being technical. In the future I will choose my words much more carefully. Just for you. wow.gif

Oh and from my understanding... BIS didn't create their SOCKETS 'from the ground up'. They used a thrid party implementation and adjusted it to suit their product.  Thus... why they have such difficulties adding VON wink.gif

Maybe I misunderstood but I discussed sockets quite a bit with Suma when we were working on getting the 1.88 patch sorted and he talked about who coded it and how he knew the person etc and yes it could probably said it was a 'third party' but it was someone Suma knew and it was designed for OFP especially.

I did not mean to pick apart your words, just wanted to clarify as you made it seem BIS just decided not to put VON in for the hell of it rather than there being a valid reason for it.
