Is this the flashing shadow thingy?

Recommended Posts

Hy all,

I have a GeForce2 MX and I got these weird tranparent shadows when I set the game to 16bit whether T&L is on or not. My computer is not so fast (PIII 450) and if I enable 32bit I have a very big drop on fps.

I went to that Avon Lady's site and it says that GeForces are no capable of handling 16 bit images. How is that so? Because I play all of my games on 16 bit and they run ok. The only one I had problems with was OFP. I'm not criticizing just pointing at my findings.

Anyway, is there any sort of tweaking that allows for these shadows to become "normal" again, besides updating my processor (no money for that) and turning on 32bit?

I thank you for your patience for reading this. And for any responses. Thanks.

The pictures bellow show the same shots at 16bit (semi-transparent-looking shadows. Is that what they call flashing shadows?)...and 32bit (normal shadows).

Hotlinked pics must not be over 100kb, when saved your pics show a filesize of 2.5mb-Placebo.

No, those don't seem like flashing shadows. Flashing shadow flash on and off constantly and can drive you bananas! wow.gif

Actually, it just looks like very low shadow rendering to me. In the OFP preferences program, there's a control for shadows. You might want to play around with it to see if any setting (higher or lower) helps.

Frankly, your specs are very minimum. Also, you should be using recent detonator drivers from Nvidia for your GeForce card.

Avon is losing it...

If you can't live with 32-bit color, you may want to try turning the vehicle shadows off. The visuals won't be as nice, but you'd get fairly decent performance.

Hello people,

I am using the latest Detonator drivers downloaded from NVidia. They are 40.72. I had version 23 something, but I had the same problem with shadows.

I am using 1024X768 and all the settings set to default on the NVidia configurator.

I'll try playing with those sliders...hope I get somewhere.

So, nobody has ever had anything like this before?

Thanks for the info Ralph...at least I'm not alone in it. Well, hope I'll be able to upgrade my computer to something a little better now at the end of the year.

Usually we are able to get some pretty good deals on those Atlon Xp....and they are pretty good too. That way I'll be able to use 32bit with no considerable drop on the fps.

Thakns guys.

But anyway, if some of you find out some tweaking way to get those shadows to appear right under 16bit, don't be shy...let yourselves be heard. smile.gif

I'll be all ears... smile.gif

i run on the same card with 800x600@32, apparently OFP doesn't like the way the card works in 16 color, changing it to 32 fixed it for me.

GeForce 2 family does not support stencil buffer when running in 16-bit resolutions. As stencil buffer is reqired in OFP for correct shadows, you need to run in 32-bit resolution if you want to see them.

Hi!

I have an old GeForce desktop=1024x768 32bits

FlashpointPreferences : is set Direct3D HW T&L 800x600 16bits

advance:Geometry performance to maximum .In the texture section:Cokpits, object, landscape, specialeffect are set to 512

In the DETAIL section i set the objects LOD 0.005 wich is the highest quality if you set it to 1 is the lowest quality .The same for SHADOW LOD 0.005 wich is the quality of the shadowing

The Ingame Video Option :Frame Rate to max ,visual quality to max ,Terrain to normal

Left column :only disable multitexture and object shadow

The W-Buffer and the Hardware T&L are set to enable if you have a GeForce card as it memory the video during the game that save memory usage when you have a small comput like me 850Mhz

I use this setup with resistance in 16bits and never have any problem at all .Ha ! forget i set viewdistance to 900 it s far enough .

Fantome wink.gif

But you are not having problems with shadows because you don't have them anymore, right? (Shadows Disabled?)

Is this some sort of loophole? wink.gif
