Terrain Builder barely useable

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I want to use Terrain Builder to build a new Terrain. The problem is that the moment I open up Terrain Builder my whole computer starts hanging. When I import images for my terrain everything returns to normal but when it is done the lagg returns. All buttons and funtions take a long time to open due to the hanging and lag. I have a high-end computer with SSD's and plenty of performance but this is the only software that makes everything hang and takes Task Manager 10+ minutes open if at all.

My dad who is a long time developer blames it on Terrain Builder blocking the Windows Message Queue with something and making everything wait for Terrain Builder to do what it needs to do which I think is doing it over and over again in a loop.

From what I know this is a problem that has been in Terrain Builder for 2+ years and still has not been fixed. Either the developers do not know how to fix it or are just one of the most ignorant developers I have ever seen. The overall performance of Terrain Builder is very poor.

Windows 8.1

Intel i7 3.6 Ghz

16GB RAM

GTX 980

2x500 SSD Samsung EVO 850

1x1TB HDD

The only thing different is that my P drive is created auto wih the C drive (Windows) and I cannot switch it to the other SSD (G Drive) where A3 Tools is installed.

Try switching the terrainbuilder.exe in arma 3 tools to windows xp (sp3) compatibility. This helped my issues loads

I'm on win 10

Oh my. This has actually solved it. The hangs are gone. Although the frames are lower, the massive hangs and stutters are gone. I will happily live with the little stutters.

Thank you a bunch for that suggestion.

Better upgrade to W 10 ....

why cant switch drive P?

open A3tools preferences change drive P destination and after move your folders ....
