rossoe 46 Posted May 18, 2017 I've been working on cleaning up my shore line and cliff faces, there are a few spots that have sheer drops so I was trying to tidy them up in Bulldozer, but in the process I've hit 2 issues which are not looking nice when loaded up in game. First issue is with cliff face - below example is a sheer drop - so I appreciate the sat image is stretched across a large distance for only a pixel or 2 worth of image, however I don't have a big issue with the way it looks when fairly close - but when you move away from the cliff it appears as if the sections at the bottom which are showing blue edges of water line, are suddenly accentuated and stretched up into the white cliff face? Looking in bulldozer the whole cliff face is only separated with one vertex or whatever they are called - see red dots below: I have a similar issue with shore lines looking bad when you move away - below example is not a sheer drop, however I was just trying to clean up where you could see blue sea encroaching into the white cliff. Close up in Bulldozer I edited it to drop them below water line by just smoothing close to the bottom of the cliff, but as you move back they seem to slowly reappear as if the cliff face is alive and moving as you zoom out? Before editing the above coast, you could shift camera back and forth towards the cliff and nothing would morph or change at all - sat image wise. What can I do to limit this affect? can you just not do sharp inclines very well and expect sat image to behave?
Tankbuster 1747 Posted May 18, 2017 Is there a lighthouse just out of shot to the left? http://www.thesalamandersailingadventure.com/needles-isle-of-wight-luxury-boat-trip
rossoe 46 Posted May 18, 2017 It is indeed the needles - IOW, I'm hoping to find a lighthouse asset I can use, or create my own.
Tankbuster 1747 Posted May 18, 2017 Brilliant. It's a testament to your work so far that it's ALREADY recognisable. Good luck with it. I've never seen a lighthouse in the game - you might well end up making it yourself.
Auss 208 Posted May 18, 2017 There are several good working lighthouse models in game that you can use
Tankbuster 1747 Posted May 18, 2017 Yep. I stand corrected. Classname Land_LightHouse_F It's nothing like the object in question, though.
rossoe 46 Posted May 18, 2017 I think I'll need to put some hours in to learning modelling, as mine needs red and white stripes. Re the above issue - perhaps the only option is to just go back to the sat image and extend the white cliff further down into the sea to avoid the blue leaking upwards so much, rather than trying to attack it from heightfield edits in Bulldozer? RoF 241 Posted May 18, 2017 Edit an arma 2 lighthouse, saves you having to model it then
Auss 208 Posted May 19, 2017 oh yes run the cliff down in to the water, also large rocks and boulders are great for hiding ugly stuff like that
