[ALiVE, SP/COOP 1-20] Battle of Korengal Valley [Insurgency]

Afghan National Army and Police conduct anti-Taliban operations in the Korengal Valley of Kunar Province, Afghanistan.

 

This is a traditional ALiVE insurgency. The mission is designed is to replicate a long-term persistent campaign, going out on patrol, talking to the locals, clearing and holding towns, and destroying the enemy resources. For more insight on how to play, please read the "How to play" section in the mission briefing area. Although solo play is encouraged, the mission should only be run in LAN or on a local hosted server.

20 player roles consisting of USMC infantry and pilots, ANA and ANP

The full suit of ALiVE features including suicide bombers, IED's and VBIED's

The Muslim Call to Prayer

Ambient civilian traffic

Multiple bases and outposts to choose from for respawn

A shooting range with Virtual Arsenal

Intelligence on dead bodies

A civilian detention center

Vehicle and helicopter resupply points (provided by Xeno)

Zeus Game Master for Admins

Saving your progress: This mission uses a local saving feature, which is accessed in the esc menu and initiated by the "server save and exit" function. To continue your save, simply act as if you're starting the mission over again and your data will load automatically. To start the mission over, change the PBO name or execute "call ALiVE_fnc_ProfileNameSpaceClear" in the debug menu. This mission should only be played on a local hosted server, even if you're playing alone with AI. If you want to play the mission on a dedicated server, for now, unpack the mission, open the Data module, and change the local saving option to "cloud."

You said that this mission should only be ran on a dedicated server or LAN. I'm guessing that means I can't host it for my friends and I to play? What if we use something like Hamachi to run it LAN?

I believe he means the mission must be run in a server environment regardless of whether you are playing single-player or multi-player, which would mean you can host your friends from your PC as you normally would.

I basically mean this should only be played in an online environment, so whatever way you and your friends are playing should be fine. I just don't want people trying to play this in offline SP mode. Any other way will be ok.

Hi dudes. one thing i got with this. i tried to load the mission  and I get no slots to join like at all. Also no params, but then again there could be none. this just me?

The slots will only be revealed in the lobby screen after you click on the blue "BLUFOR" tab in the top left of the screen. If you don't see that, that would mean you are either missing a mod, are using an out-of-date mod, or are not using Arma 3 stable 1.66. 

 

In regards to parameters, there aren't any. Feel free to use any difficulty settings you'd like, and/or your preferred AI mod. If you have any specific requests for tweaks I can make in the mission, I'm always eager to accommodate people if I can so feel free to let me know.

Hey, thanks for the speedy reply, I would attach a screen shot of what im getting here but cant. Any way I seem to have all the mods listed as requirements but just to be sure I'm leaving the list of mods I run here. i dont know if ace would casue any issues, as it has a tendency to rename units but I Don't know for sure. I'm also running the latest version.

Am I blind or is ALiVE not on the list?

 

Can you try it first with just the required mods in the first post just to see if it loads?

Ok got it to load on stock, Added the mods back in one by one to see what was causing it and it loaded fine every time. Dont know what was up with that. either way thanks for the help.

I'm loving the mission, only issues im having is with Spyder addons not working and the A-10 not taking off.

 

With Spyder addons i'm not able to interact with any of the civilians and havent encountered a call to prayer.

 

The A-10 starts to taxi and then gets clipped on the buildings about halfway down the strip.

My missions don't currently use the civilian conversation system from Spyder Addons. The reason being:

 

1. He's currently working on updating it and formally integrating the feature directly into ALiVE itself (Spyder is an ALiVE dev).

2. The Spyder Addons civilian conversation system is broken and doesn't reveal insurgent installations because the question used to reveal them doesn't work.

 

To interact with civs for the time being, use the vanilla ALiVE method and walk up to them and use your mousewheel options. You can talk with the important members of the community and also search them that way. If they have intel, the menu will say "intel" at the bottom of the list, so make sure to scroll down. 

 

Once he updates his civilian interaction system, I will incorporate it in all my insurgency missions. So hang tight. I love his conversation module too! It's just too broken to use right now in its current state.

 

Regarding the A-10, the current ALiVE release has a bug which causes planes to get stuck on an invisible helipad. This means that mostly, they can't fly out of their immediate position and are basically useless. The good news is this is fixed in their dev build and will be fixed once ALiVE updates again.

 

However, if you're actually getting them to take off (which is possible with the bug), they shouldn't be hitting things. I leave them plenty of room in the runway. Once the ALiVE update comes out, I'll test it and make sure it's working as intended. But for now, the CAS A-10 plane is broken due to the ALiVE bug, so I'd advise not using it until their next update, which I'd expect fairly soon-ish.

 

For the Call to Prayer, it plays at set times throughout the day. I'll double check to make sure it's functional on the map.

Update. You are correct, the A-10 is not taking off so until I can figure out why, I've replaced it with an empty A-10 players can fly themselves. The Call To Prayer is working fine.

 

I've also added the new ALiVE feature where manned turrets and mortars can appear with CQB units on rooftops.

Awesome, also I've noticed an issue when the afghani forces call in reinforcements. usually about 3 Mi-17s fly in troops but the all try to use the helipads at the larger FOB in the Northern Valley. They do that little dance the AI do when they are all using one LZ until they crash into each other.

This an unfortunate issue with ALiVE and reinforcements. Basically, everything will always go smoothly if you are nowhere near the area where the reinforcements happen, but if you are, the helicopters spawn into the game world and because their AI and formation is so tight, it can cause a bloodbath.

 

I'll see if there's any way to force them to paradrop, or some other solution or temporary fix if one exists.

Ok, as a temporary attempt at a workaround, until the ALiVE devs improve the reinforcements helicopter behavior, I've switched the civ obj faction from ANA/ANP to USMC, which I'm hoping will help make the issue at least slightly less noticeable. 

 

Afghan National Army and Police are still available as playable units though.

Updated. Custom camps have been replaced with random ALiVE generated camps, plus various balancing and performance improvements.

I'm currently reworking the mission. Sort of in the mood to play on this map and start with a focused objective, rather than a map wide 20x20 battle.

 

I just updated this, with the basic idea being the Taliban now have a starting stronghold in the north-central cities. With their goal being to establish this area and then expand outwards. Your objective now is to stop this from happening and give them hell and take this area back.

 

I've also made the time of day dusk, so you can begin the assault in the cover of darkness, but I may make it a bit earlier so the sun is still out for a bit as I continue to refine things.

Well buckle up. I played this for a couple hours yesterday and it's intense the deeper into the city you get. I really like this new version a lot. I think it might need a bit of balancing tweaks, but all in all I'm having a great time. I like this a lot better than the last version of the mission. It's pretty focused and fun.

 

Expect some updates in the near-ish future and I get deeper into it.

And any opinions or suggestions are more than welcome.

 

One thing I did notice is the Call to Prayer is messed up. I'll have to talk with Spyder and see if something changed with the last Arma platform update.

Update. I did a bit more balancing, adding Taliban units to some of the smaller towns and villages outside their main AO. I also added back the random camps for Taliban in the mountains.
