Bis: non-linear mapping and non-planars

Recommended Posts

After having moved some stuff around, I clicked the Check Faces command.

It gave me two new selections.

Non Planars and Non-linear mapping.

For the non-planars I simply trippled the selected polys, I assume that should be the end of those.

But what is non-linear mapping and how is it "repaired"?

Also, what is OFP and O2's tolerance for non-planars? It doesn't seem to be zero.

Cheers

While waiting for the answer Gimbal, could you briefly explain me what Non Planars and Non-linear mapping means!?!?

I'm a beginner in 3D modelling field!

Non-linear mapping is solved by triangulation as well. It means that uv coordinates of given quadrilaters are ill-defined, as there does not exist any lineat projection from (x,y,z) space into uv space that could result in uv currently used. The result of non-linear mapping may be visible texture switches during rendering when different triagnulation is selected.

Thanks Suma.

The two created selections, made by the Check Faces command remains in the model file, even after polys have been trippled. Should they just be ignored?

FlipeR:

Non planar polys are polygons that are not flat. If you have a 4-sided poly lying flat on the ground and move one corner up, the poly becomes non-planar. This usually results in render errors. Ofcourse, this can only happen to polys with 4 or more sides.

It should disappear atert you correct you error and run "Check faces" again. If you will not run the command again, nothing wrong will happen - this selection is only informative and having it in you model will do no harm (only some small memory overhead to store it).
