Chopper Bug... and lag

Recommended Posts

Ok I really want to know this one. It bugs the #### out of me.

Will the Chopper Bug (aircraft bug) be reolved in the next patch? This is a major issue when playing multiplayer missions.

Also... what is going on with the Netcode? Will it be better? Our server (which is a very good setup) will lag out on large missions and cause horrible lag (bandwidth is NOT an issue)... enough to where everything around you has stopped moving.

Please tell me these things will be fixed...

Chopper bug: Yes, it will be fixed.

Netcode improvement: There will be some, but it is hard to tell if it will help you. If you are using Windows emulation on Linux, it is probably the main performance bottleneck for you.

We aren't using Linux for OFP.

We have a dedicated Win2k server exclusively for OFP (Dual Proc Pentium 4 with 1Gig of Ram)... we also run on a Redundant OC3 connection. With 24 people connected I have seen ram usage as high as 600MB...

We have no limitations on our end... but will Netcode and CPU usage be fixed?

I can verify that the mem usage gets that high...Our server is a w2k server as well, with only 1 ghz processor, (since flashpoint doesn't use more than that), and 1gb ram. I've had mem usage go even gigher than 600 from time to time, especially during some of the larger maps. Reduced CPU usage would be an incredible bonus, as that is our current limitation as well.

Whoa Ed! That's some serious setup! biggrin.gif

However I doubt it would matter if you run single or dual CPU tho, as I doubt OpFP utilize the other CPU.

I know OFP doesn't make use of Dual... but I can always hope for the future smile.gif

I really hope the performance improves with the next release.

By the way, what sort of CPU utilization numbers do you get on that server? How evenly is the load distributed?

You know what I mean. smile.gif

OFP creates multiple threads, but they don't each utilize the processor(s) to the same degree. If there is one thread that is a CPU hog and a dozen other threads that use it a little bit, the scheduler would put the hog on one CPU, and all the other threads on another, including threads from the OS etc.

So my question remains -- how distributed (or not) is the load? I have a dual-CPU system myself, but I'm not throwing a big dedicated server at it, my DSL connection would choke.

In 1.40 we fixed memory leak, as you are probably already aware from other threads. Besides of this, no major CPU optimization was done in this release.
