I think it's just my town. There is a smaller town about 100km away that has an EB, but the city I live in doesnt. Very Strange.

I am surprised that no one has commented on the LucasArts announcement that they are returning to the flight sim world... Hopefully the product will get it's own web page soon and we can see if Holland and Company still have the touch. Their FInest Hour wsa one of the most enjoyable early flight sims I ever played.

Well, I played the Original X-Wing (my first game ever actually) and loved it but I wouldn't call it a realistic flight sim. I played Secret Weapons of the LuftWaffe once it was dated, but still enjoyed it. Let me just say...if there's a campaign scenario like in that game where you can plan the missions, choose the targets and then fly e'm, I'm sold! (I loved that...you could focus on their airfields, their fuel supplies, ect....plan your own victory!

I got CFS3, and I'm not at all dissapointed. I would certainly reccomend it. The graphics are good, and it does not require that new of computer, I ran it with lower graphics levels on my computer(733mHz, 256mb RAM), and it ran just fine. I have upgraded to 512mb RAM for resis.

They are Military simulations and thereby fullfill the Offtopic requirement tounge.gif (as much as I dislike the new requirement).

Rubbing IL-2 in my face like this may force me to go and buy it, spending cash on the game itself and some rudder pedals. Ultimately I'm afraid I'd like it (from what I read here) and it would draw my time away from Operation Flashpoint and this forum.... Surely BIS and fellow forum members wouldn't want a dedicated fan like me to defect, now would they?

LOL I switch happily between the two. Flashpoint is my ground combat sim, IL-2 is my flight sim. When the forgotten battles expansion comes out though, it'll keep me busy awhile. I'm a sucker for dynamic campaigns!

Really? Cool!!! smile.gif

In other words you'll be able to hit the second intake manifold oil pump actuator switch and see the results. biggrin.gif

Might give it a shot. Okay that will be the next game I buy (once I pay my car loan off and get a girlfriend that is)

I'm convinced to 100%, gonna buy it this week smile.gif Although I don't play alot of games, before OFP almost nothing... Couple of months ago America's Army, which I'm getting tired of now. (Don't play OFP alot either nowadays, maybe once a week.)

Hehe, I fully understand that older people don't like her music, but I'm 16 and I love all ( ! ) her songs,

and I never knew she was here in Stockholm doing a performance in the middle of September! I missed it sad.gif

I think Im going to have to play CFS3 to see how good it is for myself.......

I wonder how good the IL-2 Forgoten Battle's Dynamic Campaign will be like. I hope it is as good as what CFS3 is suppose to be with your actions been able to change the course of the war. I remember reading a really early interview with Oleg Maddox and he was saying the IL-2 didnt have a Dynamic campaign like that ebcuase the actions of one squadron couldnt change the war. I don't think thats exactly true.....

What if you jumped into an IL-2 with unlimited ammo on and went around the Battle of Kursk and absolutely wasted the Germans so the battle lasted only a day and the Red Army occupied Berlin before D-Day?

Bah, I hate sticks, I'd never waste money on one. Maybe I'll ask for one along with IL-2 for Christmas. tounge.gif

I have been using a mouse to fly ever since the days of Air Warrior II, and I don't plan on changing things anytime soon. I find that mouse control is more accurate than a stick, at least more so than the one I had (Logitech Wingman). I ended up getting pissed, and broke the stick right off the base, I pledged to myself that I would never waste money on a stick of my own.

Anyways, I exchanged CFS 3 for 'Hitman 2: Silent Assasin' and what can I say about it? Hitman 2 is an awesome game, very detailed and gory and FUN. Sure it's not 'realistic' but it is as fun as hell. The graphics are simply amazing, when a guy takes a leak, you can see his wang flopping around in his hands wow.gif All with the accompanied sounds wink.gif The weapons are all real life, and are modeled beautifully, along with the settings and animations.

If you guys are tired of the pure realism of OFP, and want a close in, graphic, fun, and challenging FPS, get this game!

You can probably get a mediocre joystick pretty cheap, and if you looked long enough possibly one free after rebate

Nah!

Even back in the day, TFH:BoB and SWotL werent the most accurate flight models. But they were FUN. They had a much lower learning curve than some of the other more realistic sims.

Besides, nothing says that you cant make a flight sim for a console that has reasonable flight models. No one has done it, because most console gamers arent hardcore sim fanatics.

But the point still stands that Totally Games is doing another WWII Flight Sim. Wheee! smile.gif

And Tovarisch...X-Wing was a Star Wars Space Simulator. How could you even remotely try to apply 'realism' to that equation! biggrin.gif

Anyhoo, SWOTL was before my time (I believe I was in 5th grade or something like that when it came out, lol), so i guess I dont have the nostalgia thing going. We will see.

WAY before your time. Nov 1991. Which would have made you about 5 1/2.

So if you were in grade five, can I assume your real name is Doogie Howser? biggrin.gif

I keep hearing mixed feelings about CFS3.  I think I have to try it out myself,  I was a big fan of CFS2 (still have it on my computer) because of all the mods for it, so I'm convinced CFS3 won't let me down too much.  How does it compare?

IL-2 is a great game too, probably the best one I've played as far as realism and damage modeling.  One thing about IL-2 though...for a red-blooded yankee like myself it's hard to stomach having to choose between fighting for Stalin or Hitler... I know it's kind of corny, and a "typical brainwashed american" attitude, but I have to admit that I prefer to imagine myself as a traditional John Wayne type of ace hero.  Maybe when forgotten battles comes out, I'll feel better.  I will be able to play as Finland.

When are they going to make a good WW1 flight sim again?  WW1, now that's flying.  I haven't seen any good ones out there since Red Baron 3D (correct me if I'm wrong).  The CFS community has made some WW1 mods, but it's just not.... you know...  I hope CFS4 is WW1.

If CFS3 is as crap ass it is made out to be, the best Western Front Flight Sim must be European Air War still.........

Oh how I loved that game...... It was the first PC game I ever brought and I have never regretted it. Unfortunetly I can't get it to work on Windows 2000. I tried the thing thats suppose to make EAW thinks it running under Win 98, but it crashes when I try to play.

As for the Joystick thing, I never use Joystick, I always use the arrow keys on the keyboard. Say what you want, but I can still get my sights over the enemy.

Maybe one-day I will get a good joystick though.

Air attack was a good WWII multiplayer plane sim ,aged a bit now, which was then snapped up by MS and evolved into fighter ace(p2p only sad.gif ) though u can still d/l it and play it on some german servers.

What kind of multiplayer if any does il-2 have and hows it set up for joystick.I ont want to be stuck with a half working joystick like in OFP,to this day still cant reassign some of the controls and whenever i try and fly the chopper if i touch the stick the rudders magicly disable themselves. The stupid mouse look/steer should of been better implemented as its not much fun to have ur view skew to the side as ur turning the aircraft mad.gif

You can easily customize your joystick controls as well as all your other keyboard controls in IL-2.  Even if you have one of those mega FS joysticks with three dozen buttons on them.  You can't even compare the interface with OFP.  OFP flying interface was made for smooth transitions between running around in 1st person to piloting a chopper. IL-2 is pure flying.

Multiplayer is pretty cool. Unfortunately for me, most of the players online are hardcore flight sim fans, so I don't stand a chance.  I gave up on multiplayer for this reason.  It's too humiliating.  If I'm not shot down within the first minute of a dog fight, I end up stalling out or going into a spin while trying to get on my opponents six.  It's embarrassing.

The point I was trying to make is that as far as I've seen, all games made by Lucas Arts were of great quality. Even if they weren't flight sims smile.gif

Bwahahahahah.....oh that killed me.....bit too realistic for my tastes....lol honestly it sounded great till you got to that part tounge.gif.

About your old Wingman breaking right off the base, guess what, mine did too! I actually fixed it myself three times (superglue and a small metal tube) before Christmas came around and I got a new one. Got another Logitech (except for the fact that the old one broke after 2 years of abuse I had no complaints). Anyways, I now have had a Logitech Wingman Force 3d for a year (It has been completely redesigned though, the new Wingmans look nothing like the old ones)....let me say Force Feedback gives you an incredible advantage in IL-2 if you're gonna push your aircraft to the limits. You can feel when it's getting ready to stall or spin on you and react accordingly.
