Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted November 3, 2002 I guess most of you people out there know about the film from Michael Moore "Bowling for columbine" that creates a portrait of "Arms in the US". I watched it and thought it had a lot of funny (though superficial) parts. But I can also assume that it made quite a lot of people angry in the US (in case they bothered watching it). Now if you start a general discussion on arms I dont mind (even though it is gonna end in a silly flame war). Anyhow, the film wasnt all about arms it was mainly about the cause of why people feel to own guns and the impact of the media on the increase need to feel secure. If you havent watched it yet go here! Michael Moore or have a look at their forum Bowling for columbine Forum And yes (1a Schnitzel who posted there is me)
FallenPaladin 0 Posted November 3, 2002 Hi Albert, I don`t know the movie but what`s the 1a Schnitzel-story? Have you been banned recently and the Schnitzel was your alias?
Assault (CAN) 1 Posted November 3, 2002 I havent seen it (yet). But I watched Michael Moore when he was on 'Oprah' and they showed a bunch of clips from the movie. He made a bunch of good points about how the media spreads fear through the public, and I tend to agree with that view point. At one point he tried to draw a relation between the KKK and the NRA, stupid if you ask me. Most of the film involving guns is left-wing propaganda. There is a violence problem in the U.S., not a gun problem. I like the scene where he gets a free rifle for getting an account at the bank (after a background check). He says: "Don't you think it's a bit dangerous handing out guns at a bank?" My reply? Of course not, that is probably one of the safest banks in the U.S. Afterall, who would rob a bank where the employees are armed to the teeth? Tyler

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted November 3, 2002 Funny, I heard several people speaking about that interview. Strange how many actually watch that Ophrah. Of course he is extreme left, but his points were valid. Also, he didnt blame it on the guns and compared it to Canada where people own guns but the rate of abuse is relatively low. FallenPaladin 0 Posted November 3, 2002 Not the guns kill people, people kill people. Even in accidents with guns people are involved in one or another way. There are so many ways to kill or hurt... You can kill with your fork, your PC (if you use it for smashing), a pencil, your teeth and hands and feet and elbows, your car, your dog, you can drown people in rainwater, ... , ... If you ban everything that is dangerous, you`ll find yourself in a pretty empty room. Of course with no hard walls, because you could use them for ... , ... But that is also why much stricter laws are required. If a kid cuts himself on a knife it's not the knife's fault. It's the kids. That is the reason why you don't give knifes to children. Jinef 2 Posted November 3, 2002 I would say that you need more control over the guns and thus who gets them but as there are more guns than people i think that is unrealistic. You can always do what the israelis do - have everyone who is part of an institution armed and ready to deal with nasty people, like teachers for example. As FS pilot rightly pointed out we are the reason Americans carry guns! Lol.

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted November 3, 2002 The purpose of the film was not about the gun-laws? So there is no reason to diffuse the topic of this thread and therefore I hope no real reason to lock it if people stay on track. He made a very valid point there. The NEWSCOVERAGE of crimes. Americans get bombarded with life-coverages of car-chasing and drug-dealer-hunt. OF course people will feel insecure, even if the live in the most secure suburbs! Takeing away from the hunters and people who want to defend themselfs does not stop crazy people from geting hold of guns. I am 13 and own 3 guns a shotgun 1 4.5 MM BB/Pellet gun and a BB hand gun i keep my bb and pellet guns next to my bed one with ammo in it not loaded. I have about 5 knifes in my room also but you dont see me takeing them to school do you? The goverment should take guns away from the criminals not the hunters. Tex -USMC- 0 Posted November 4, 2002 How does a German see an American movie about America before I do?
FSPilot 0 Posted November 4, 2002 Looks pretty stupid if you ask me. Someone's trying to milk another tragedy for money.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted November 4, 2002 Lol, dont forget I still own an appartement in Lausanne/switzerland, there we get to see films half a year before they come to Germany. They are pretty quick with that in switzerland. But be assured, it takes another 22 days before the film starts in Germany! And Mr. Tank, you are 13, i dont want to judge on your age but there a quite a lot of people at your age that are not capable to control their emotions and I dont want to face a little dwarf that pulls his gun just because I rang the bell at his door and he doesnt know me. And gun-laws dont restrict hunters, just to let you know!
TaNK_Em 0 Posted November 4, 2002 Here in USA they take peoples guns away that did not do anything. I watched a NRA show about them doing it it started in cali and is spreading accros america.
Tovarish 0 Posted November 4, 2002 Never heard of it, but I watched those clips and now it's a must see for me. Giving out guns at a bank??? Who the hell was smoking what.....bah. The "brief history of America" was brilliant, and for once, I totally agree with Marilyn Manson. Scary huh?
USMC Sniper 0 Posted November 4, 2002 I dont want to see it, I dont watch things like that. i have a question tho: I once saw a sale of automatic weapons on a website, are fullauto guns allowed in the US with a special permit or something? I also saw many videos of ppl shooting off fullauto ingram mac11's.
ralphwiggum 6 Posted November 4, 2002 well, i think it is to certain extent. AFAIK, LEOs in CA can have automatic weapons.

ralphwiggum 6 Posted November 4, 2002 Law Enforcement Officers..i went to a local firearms dealer and saw several weapons, such as SA-80, M4(or some relative of) and someother rifles. and they clearly had label on top that says 'For Law Enforcement Officers Only'. USMC Sniper 0 Posted November 4, 2002 I see, but ive seen many, many videos of people shooting automatic weapons, such as m2's, ingrams, uzis, and ak47s. The m2, and ak were on that machine gun fest (whatever its called), the ingrams were home videos here: videos, and the uzi was on american shooter.
Warin 0 Posted November 4, 2002 I think possesion of fully auto weapons varies from state to state. I suspect if you call a reputable gun shop in your area, they can give you a good idea of whether you can or cant own fully auto weapons. Then again, anyone with some knowledge and a file can likely convert some semi auto weapons into fully auto. At least, on of my dad's friends had a really interesting modification he did on his Ruger 10/22 to make it fire full auto..for about 150 rounds. Then it needed to be fixed. USMC Sniper 0 Posted November 4, 2002 yes, but converting weapons from semi to full auto is illegal.
