player model fine in preview, but corrupted in server

Recommended Posts

When I run my mission in mpmissions preview, the player looks like this.

But when I run a server on my machine, or connect to my rented dedi box, in the same mission, he looks like below

64959C2613A9354224C768742708991D0A2A1882

It's using CUP and ACE3.

I've verified the cache of both the server and the client install on this machine. Should it start downloading a file the instant I start to verify?

I've made a virgin mission and run it on the same server install, and there was no character corruption, :(

Oh jeez. It's getting worse. In the editor, units looked fine, but now, this.

It seems it's the steam tools dedi executable that's at fault here.

Initially I though Eliteness was doing this, but I've made a mission PBO by exporting from the game with the same result.

As nobody else is reading this, I can post my findings without fear of ridicule.

After a day of fiddling with this, it seems the corruption of the man model was caused by having an inventory in another vehicle. When I filled this vehicle (a CUP Coyote) with magazines and shit , not using the VA, just it's traditional inventory, the player characters got broken and twisted. When I removed it all, the player characters weren't broken.  I can say if placing a particular object in the inventory caused it, I can say having a small selection of magazines in there doesn't cause it.

So, it doesn't make any sense and I reserve the right to retract all of the above if further, more sensible findings come to light. This has wasted about 18 hours of keyboard time, and I only get a couple of hours a day, so I am pissed off about it. I had better things to do. :(

This is still causing problems for us.

In the same mission at the same time, a JIP player gets this.

But another player, standing in the same place at the same time, but who was in the server since it started, sees this,

Just seeing this, understand your frustration to not getting a response and the issue at hand, idk what i can offer in light of the problem but maybe for the guy who doesn't have the issue,

compare files with him, maybe the issue is just on your end TB?

or is everyone dealing with this.

Would also suggest use a stock map and remove ace3 and just run arma3 if thats possible and basically do a process of elimination to make sure its not a mod corruption.

Go back to arma3 itself, reinstall a new version of the mod your using, make sure the server has the same.

Thanks for the reply, GS. :)

We started the server with 2 players, and a 3rd joined after half an hour, and all was fine. The forth player joined and reported corruptions. He saw all men units corrupted, both the enemy Ai CUP Russian and the player BLUFOR British. We looked at the new guy and he looked fine to us. It seems the corruption was only on his client. But then if we quit and rejoin, we also got the corruptions, apart from 1 player who could quit and rejoin with no problems.

Weird as it sounds, the only thing I changed, other than a server restart, was to remove some of the inventory of the coyote. But how can that be? The character corruption is caused by the inventory of a vehicle?

At the moment, my best guess is that it's related to ACE. I can make the mission without ACE, it's not a massive job to remove it. I think I'm going to start with that,

Hello,

thank you for the feedback and sorry for the late response.

To try to reproduce this in the vanilla is something I would like to ask you to do. It is most likely that this issue is caused by one or more mods or by some conflict between them. Verifying game files might also be a good step (on both server and client).

If you are unable to reproduce this on vanilla you can try to enable the mods one by one to see which is causing the trouble.

Please let me know once you try this on vanilla.

Thanks

Hi, Razazel,

Thanks for replying.

I've verified both the server and client files successfully.  We think it's unlikely to be an issue with the mission itself - it's more likely to be a mod issue and I have redownloaded the mods. But we reckon that the issue is client side as one player often see different things to another. I mean, 1 player saw his and all the other units as corrupted, but another player saw himself and all others as normal in the same mission, at the same time, at the same place.

My plan is to take out ACE first, for two reasons, firstly I suspect the problem lies with ACE and secondly it's easiest! :)

Will be interesting to see what you discover what the cause is, and be able to report it, surely someone else has the same issue, cant be just arma3 itself.

Early findings implicate the ACE ladder. I've removed it from the inventory space of the coyote vehicle and so far, no problems. Tomorrow, I'll put it back in and see what happens
