Major Fubar 0 Posted October 20, 2002 Can anyone tell me (someone who had never used Oxygen) if there is any way to fix addons which have no shadows? By this I mean modifying existing addons, not creating new ones. This really ruins the atmosphere of the game for me, and detracts from the realism. Why do some addon makers not add shadows anyway? Is it that they forget, or that it causes too much drain on the system with high poly models, or what? Whatever it is really bugs me...
kegetys 2 Posted October 20, 2002 To have a shadow, you need a LOD level with less than 300 faces... And as many addon makers out there are too lazy to do LOD levels at all, there is no shadow. (And imo. the whole model is useless)
Major Fubar 0 Posted October 20, 2002 I agree with you Kegetys, if user made addons don't cast a shadow, they just don't fit in with the other ingame objects. It's a shame, some really nice addons are coming out without a shadow... So I guess there is no workaround for this, other than turning shadows off in my setting so everything looks as crappy as each other...
USMC Sniper 0 Posted October 20, 2002 Yes, but most games (such as SOF2, etc), where the developers have used 3ds max (that can only support triangular faces, O2 can have square faces) will have alot of faces, since the models are high poly. I still made lods for the imported guns I made, the TEC9 I had had a shadow, and so did the Kedr-B.
Gen.Carnage 0 Posted October 20, 2002 make different lods with increasingly lower polycout, the lowest lod should have 300 or less poly's put in all lod property tabs this value: 'LodNoShadow 1', except in the lods that have less than 300 poly's. and i agree totally with keg... ppl who are too lazy to finish their models by going all the way should stop making them alltogether. Prospero 1 Posted October 20, 2002 I agree, and would add that although it's slightly off-topic, people should make an effort to "style" their textures to fit in with the appearance of BIS-made objects. It's no good suddenly having a photorealistic helicopter - yes it's nice - but it doesn't fit in. Now, if only for shadows on the sea, and shadows cast by objects onto other objects... Konyak-2 0 Posted October 20, 2002 I am one of those addon makers who are too lazy to make Lods, and I just put out a useless addon. Actually, strike that, I tried to make the shadow appear, but it only comes on when it is flying close to the ground.. I did make a LOD that is less than 300 polys, and I did put LodNoShadow in the other Lod.. I did post to ask about this, but nobody had a sollution past what I had done.. It irritates the heck out of me. Do I need to put LodNoShadow = 1 in the Cargo and Pilot view LOD's as well?? Or just the resolution lods as I did? Does the LOD that should cast a shadow be convex and closed topology, or doesn't it matter?? Konyak
