linuxmaster9 101 Posted October 23, 2015 Does anyone here use QGIS for their DEM and other GIS data processing? Can someone point me to a tutorial that uses it and walks you through the steps needed to generate the necessary data?
RoF 241 Posted October 23, 2015 I find global mapper easier to use tbh, You can pump out a basic terrain, sat map and all roads in 1 day. I could never find any guides for QGIS, when I looked into using it.

colddna 5 Posted October 23, 2015 Let me find the guide for QGIS Really all you do is add your SRTM or DEM then click on raster on the top bar then click conversion and convert it to ASC amd then load it into L3DT and your done
ceeeb 147 Posted October 23, 2015 I use QGIS, but not for anything Arma related. I found it relatively easy to learn. There are many general QGIS learning resources available, for example: http://www.qgis.org/en/docs/index.html http://www.qgistutorials.com/en/ If all you want to do is prepare data for Arma Terrain builder you just need to do is import, filter, then export data: For raster (heightmap) to ASC: http://wiki.tuflow.com/index.php?title=QGIS_Export_Raster_to_asc and to export vector data: select the layer you wish to export. select the features on that layer you wish to export using the select features tools right click the layer and save as ESRI shapefile.
