Another idea,

Recommended Posts

Thats it, mobile infantry, the ones from starship troopers! Would be cool to have some men like that, and some of the rifles, they're all pritty much the same, i don't know the names but i know what they are all like!

Standard issue, just the rifle!

Shotgun, that standard issue with shotgun on bottom

Grenade, standard with grename launcher

and the Nuke launcher, but i suppose just making it as a law or AT gun would be good!

If anybody has Starship troopers on DVD or Video, go to the bit near the start when them two troopers are letting the kids hold the rifle! They say the name somewhere around there!

Found a website full of info, heres some info!

Morita SmartRifle (MK1)

The standard weapon of the Mobile Infantry, a shoulder fired, fully automatic, projectile firing weapon. It uses a variety of ammunition including 7.62 mm High Explosive, Armor Penetrating, Training, and a collection of classified varieties. Uses power magazines for high capacity of ammunition including, rapid discharging, projectiles containing XC14 explosive warheads and other ammo types.

(Thats the one most of the soldiers use!wink.gif

R&D Note: The prototype MK2 Morita SmartRifle will permit remote and telepathic targeting plus higher capacity, variable rates of fire, and additional ammo types.

Their is also another version of the Mk1 that is shorter and seems to more rapid and heavyer rounds. But i've only seen it once!

I enjoyed that movie. Might be a no brainer entertainer, but it was helluva fun at the outpost. My only problem with the movie was the killing.

Humans were weak as hell. But I dont blame them when something twice as high as them are chewing on them like chew toys. One thing I dont get is:

One minute, the bugs are dying just as the troops. Another, it takes like minutes or a whole squad to take another down!

I think the movie was just lacking actual military intellegence and story from the book and suffered from a little lack of maturity.

As for the thing in OpFlash.

Personally, I get a huge disappointment when I see a super weapon in Opflash. When I play the game, I love it on true realism. I even have my father tell me how to supply and make sure my base is un breakable so that way I can try to get in it.

I dont think it would fit. Anyways, have Morita rifle something vs a russian AK? With that armor? Wouldn't be very fair. I think creating a bug from the movie would be difficult with the Opflash code.

If you're going to make Starship Troopers add-ons, make 'em from the book, not the movie.

As a no-brians blood-n-guts movie it was okay, but unfortunately shamed the book, which had better (cooler) technology.

Let's make some power-armored Mobile Infantry, and bugs with guns! There's your 2 sides! Maybe add the Skinnies as a 3rd side (Resistance?).

But that'll be hard without the ability to make original models, unfortunately.

Ah, well, my "contribution" to this thread. confused.gif

I think in all fairness anybody could make their own sci fi mod from scratch and it would be better than the Starship Troopers kit from the movie. It was to infantry combat what TopGun was to jet fighter combat.

Personally I thought the movie was crap, but I hear the book is better.

At any rate, unless Flipper and OFPinternals figures out how to make new animations from scratch, there is now way "Bugs" could be made in the OFP engine.  That's already been covered many many times.  Plus there is no hand to hand combat engine so the bugs would have to have guns.

However....there are other excellent potential ideas for Sci-Fi mods.  One that has ENOURMOUS potential is one based on the book, "Heretics of Dune".   Plenty of ground combat in that book.   Of coarse that's where I get the name, "Miles Teg" (my favorite character).  At any rate, there's lots of infantry action.  The main problem is that someone would have to figure out how to make "lasguns" which from the description of them, is some type of laser that can be swept across a battlefield slicing and burning up enemies in the path of the beam.  Someone made a laser gun awhile back but I don't know if it did any damage or not.

Might be hard to simulate the giant sand worms however.  sad.gif

Plus there isn't a hand to hand combat engine unfortunately (although there actually is a very basic one that BIS never fully implemented).

Still I'd love to see some massive "Hammer" assault ships dropping off assault forces and heavy armor led by Bene Gesserit Commados with lasgun beams blasting through the enemy and disruptors bouncing around.  Maybe command a squad of "Futars" (part man, part hunting animal) to hunt down Honored Matres.

Still I suspect that the OFP engine is really not up to the challenge of a full fledged Sci-Fi game, unless it was expanded to have the ability to move off-planet and combine the OFP engine with one of the better space combat engines.

Then that would be truly incredible!!!  Just like the old "Elite" and Elite-II Frontiers" games.

In the book, did the bugs have guns? I think if they had somthing like that it mite explain how they know where earth is and how the hell to fire an astroid full of spawn at us!

erm, Them strike craft would be cool too! The ones that do the surface bombardment and have the bugs trying to run away!

I would like to see somthing like power armor, i have no idea what the Starship troopers book power armor looks like, but i like WarHammer power armor!

Your main problem for Dune addon would be that:

in the books the king of the field is a soldier that is able to do handfight better *remember the problems with shield and laser*:

Dune is for hand to hand fighter, and thought OPF and BIS wont adaptate hand to hand becse it ll require a full modif of the game engine i dont think it ll be done.... maybe OPF2 or OPF3 *dreaming*

Ruskiesrule: Yeah, in the books, the bugs had weapons; they were almost at a technological level with the humans.

It's a good read, by Robert Heinlein. It gets kinda preachy on politics, but the MI equipment is very cool, and frankly puts the movie to shame. The MI carry baby nukes (think RPG with a small, clean nuclear warhead), they've got jets in their powered armor to allow them to jump over buildings and across buildings...

I'd definitely recommend it. Then you'll wonder who could sell the rights to the book and allow the movie to be made the way it was. smile.gif

Anyway, THAT's the kind of MI I'd like to see, but I doubt it'd be possible... confused.gif

I played and finished Starship troopers game, and you end with power armors that looks more like mechs than infantry units wink.gif

Anyway many bugs were able to "spit" , so they are able to fire from a short distance too.

If bugs cannot be done, we should able to make an alternative enemy, like some sort of bad humans... confused.gif
