Ded. Server 1.30 Does Not Release Memory

Recommended Posts

I am not saying Memory Leak.

I am just saying that after the game plays and then people log off the memory continues to go upwards.

It started at about 10mb (if my memory serves me)

After two days it at 132 mb

One time period I seen it up to 192mb after 3 days of usage before I lost power.

Can anyone reproduce this??

I'm using WinXP Pro.

I think you have your figures wrong no way only 10mb.

and 192 mb is not unusual in fact depending on how much you got(memory) it's about normal

I discovered the same thing here. I started a DS and after we had played for ~12 hrs with lots of traffic, players and big missions, the server ran out of memory and I have 640 MB RAM on this box.

Cpt Gamer,

I agree that the ammount of memory is not unusual that is not my point at all. It is a great game and great games take memory. Regardless if my figures are wrong.  The point is, any program should release memory when it is done with it. Surely you would agree with that.  I know Suma would.

Now my only workaround is to restart the Dedicated Server (DS) every 3 or 4 days to release that memory.

Oh and to answer your question, I have 512mb of memory. I am adding another 512mb after the new year. But even then unless we change this situation, I will have to restart it every 6 to 8 days.

Do you run a DS Cpt Gamer?

okie dokie smile.gif

I do belive there is a memory leak problem that they are addressing now (I hope)

might be off the topic a bit but have you tried to use cacheman http://www.outertech.com/ to help manage your memory and set it to clean/free up your mem at certain intervals......

I use cacheman myself with 384mb mem....and XP

dont know if you have tried anything like it...

and no I dont run a DS (would like to but my connection is only 2 tin cans and some string) smile.gif

Cpt Gamer,

I haven't used cacheman but I am using MemTurbo II (www.memturbo.com) which I believe does the same thing.

Thanks for your input.

We discovered a bug in sound voice management when sounds are disabled (which is case of ded. server). This bug caused memory leak and it will be fixed in next patch. After fixing this bug no memory leak has been observed so for.

When it is done, it will be released. smile.gif

(Just kidding, but really, its release is getting really close now).

THANKS Suma! I like your responsiveness.

I also think it is comical that my request for disabling the sound in the Ded. Server lead to a bug which annoyed me. LOL

Thanks So much!!

BTW - I do not think the Email Notifications (a feature on this forum) are going out. I never get them. I hope you can fix them.

1.40 I thought was better but evidence shows it does not *release* the memory when all users log out. My DS is currently sitting at 140MB idle with no one logged in.

When I started days ago it started out with 30MB used.

I am going away for 3 days. It will be interesting to see what happens. Will the 140mb of memory go up, down or stay the same.

BTW, Merry Christmas!
