Install A3 from DVD and not Steam. "Delete Local Content" ????

Recommended Posts

I have slow internet here.

I bought A3 on DVD.

I have a Steam account but I have no Steam games. I have never used Steam before.

I wish to install from DVD. The Steam instruction for installing from DVD begins with:

Click on my Library ( the library has no Games) Right click on Arma 3 and Delete Local Content.

I do not have Arma 3 in my library. How do I delete local content?

The way i understand it is the dvd only has the key. The game will need to be d/l'ed from steam.

Go here for details:

"− Activating your non-Steam CD key on Steam

Step 1: Make sure you have the Steam client installed

If you do not have Steam installed, please follow this link to download and install it.

Step 2: Run Steam as Administrator

•Right-click on the Steam icon.

•Click "Run As Administrator." If this choice is unavailable, you are already logged in as Administrator. In that case run Steam normally.

Step 3: Activating your game

Click on the Games tab in the menu in the top of the client.

Then select Activate a Product on Steam from the menu.

Click the Next button until you get to this screen:

There you can enter your CD key.

Then click Next again. Your game is now activated and you can download it the same way you download any game on Steam...."

Whilst I cannot speak in specific terms regarding ArmA3 on DVD, my experience with other Steam games that I have had on disc (Just Cause 2 and a couple of others), is you can still install via the DVD by simply putting it into your drive as you would a normal game. It then installs the game, and will likely need to download a (hefty) update as the DVD will contain v1.00 of the game and the current version is 1.42 (so you'll be looking at ~5-10GB with the freeLC's and patches etc).

Yep done all of that.

The DVD makes a poor Frisbee. Now downloading the game.

I just came up with a clever idea! Just imagine if I could install the game from the DVD and then AFTERWARDS register it on Steam! I am soooo brilliant !

.

It is expected to take 42 hours to download.

Yes it is a great idea, but since the reality is they have only the first version out, its more efficient for them to have you just update the game through steam then

spend all kinds of money constantly releasing new dvd's everytime a new patch is released, and considering thats like 1-2 times a month

maybe 1-3 times 1-3 months give or take, it just costs unnecessary amount of money.

Although i do think at least they could instead of v1.0, bump up the version to 1.40 or latest, maybe once a year do that idk and then theres less for one to have to update too.

Gunter you do not understand.

The DVD has 8 Gigs of data. In the olden days you buy a game and then afterwards you download patches.

My idea is that we install that 8 Gigs from a DVD - and then install patches from Steam.

I am sure somebody has already thought of that but somebody will not allow it!

As a result the download took 21 hours and 45 minutes.
