wantafanta 13 Posted April 6, 2015 so after a few different attempts at fixing the ocean elevations in a clean way without messing up the actual shoreline too much and im starting to get the feeling that there is probably a way to go about doing this that would be easier than the way im doing it.. (i use the lower to brush in L3DT to set all the ocean elevation values with -2, then i smooth the shoreline a bit to make the transition less blocky, then i repeat except at a lower elevation value like -5 or -10 and then smooth the transition again, then just keep repeating that process.. id love to know how all of you who used real world DEM data for your islands overcame this issue
Uro 220 Posted April 6, 2015 I dont know about the people used real DEM data - I only have experimental maps where I have used real data, and never really put that much work into those... Generally in L3DT I use the "Change Heightfield Vertical Range" option and then raise/lower the min & max values by the same amount - a little processing later and it will raise or lower your entire terrain. Note: Providing you adjust the min & max values by the same amount it won't affect your heightmap, it will just change the elevation from sea level. Operations Menu >> Heightfeld >> Change Vertical Range. Hope this helps you out a bit, going round an entire map using brushes to lower the terrain seems a little bit tedius :D

jakerod 254 Posted April 7, 2015 It kind of depends on what you want. Leveller has a nice function that allows you to use a .bmp file as a selection which you can then use to lower terrain. You just need to make the .bmp in photoshop first. Leveller is somewhere between $30-50 though. Normally I just flatten the entire ocean down to one height and then smooth along the coast. If I care about the seabed I will go back to it later.
