Arma Coveralls - Modifiying Binerised file

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I'm trying to modify a uniform for my unit, I've made a new diffuse layer, but the p3d file is binerised and i cannot access the model to try make some decent normal & height maps etc etc. Is there any way around this?

Xnormal and other nvidia auto-generator programs like this are giving up some strange results, so i'd like to generate my own. Indents are reversed etc etc.

It's only a slightly modified coverall/jumpsuit thing, so if anyone has a model of one i would obviously very much appreciate that. I have been working with permission on the Coveralls mod by Scorch, but he doesnt have the original files anymore.

I've used other engines in the past by this is my first attempt at using the bohemia software/pipeline so be gentle.

Kind regard

Gavin

Arma 3 models (P3d files) are binarized and not allowed to be directly edited.

You are however allowed to edit the texture files itself (PAA files) and use the hiddenselection function in a units config to give it you're texture. There's also hiddenSelectionMaterials that allow to change a RVMAT which has normal maps etc.

But in short, you can't change the actual model itself, just its texture.

okay, i think i understand all of that, so in short, what would you say is the best method to generate normal maps without access to the P3D file, how do you do it?

thanks for the quick reply

People generally modify the original normal map texture in photoshop like you were doing before. If your indents etc. are reversed on the model like you say, you need to invert the GREEN channel on those layers before you convert it to .paa format

The low poly game model wouldn't be much use for generating a normal map anyway there's no detail in it - you use a high poly model to generate normal maps and obviously that's not available anywhere.
