Fighting civillians

I thought to myself just now, I would like to have civillians that fight, the only way I know how to make them do it is either if you put a destroy waypoint on someone (but that's limited to just one) or change thier sides in the mission.sqm but then if you want to hange somehting about that man like change thier weapon, he will change into a soldier :/ Why not have ALL the civies changed to put them in the WEST men and EAST men, don't give them weapons though, just make it so they're on the military sides, as well as the civilian sides.. if you get what I mean, also the police.

Anyone wanna do it? =D

you can download police units:

These are Police officer

Police officer with Hat thingy

FBI agent

SWAT team member

SWAT team sniper

You can add civilians to west and resistance sides, but i have noidea if they will actualy shoot at sombody if orderd to be the resistance leader!

I know I have had those before, and I have made civies fight before, but it would be alot easier to have this, btw I meant the OFP: Resistance civillians, since there is a proper cop 8 men and 5 women =)

The UK, I just think it would be cool to have it, especialy for police shoot outs biggrin.gif

Actually it's a piece of cake to make them fight.  

If you do a little research you'll find that you can add weapons to them using a simple script in the "initialization" box on the unit in the map editor.

However the civys only have 3 ammmo slots.  So if you want to give them an AK47 type this script:

this addmagazine "AK47"; this addweapon "AK47"; this addmagazine "AK47"; this addmagazine "AK47"; this addmagazine "AK47";

That'll give the civy a loaded AK47 with 3 magazines of ammo.

Also if you want to change them to "EAST" simply save your mission then go and find it under your User/missions/mission name folder. Then open the mission.sqm file with Wordpad.

Find the Civilian units there and change them to "EAST".

Now save that in wordpad. Then load the mission again and they will be on the East side. HOWEVER if you click on them again in the map editor under "units" they will revert back to civilian status (or maybe it was that they change back to a Russian soldier) so keep that in mind. So if you're going to give them names or anything, do this before you modify them in the mission.sqm file.

I allready knew all of that, as I said in my first post, thanks anyway though =)

I was just saying it would be easier if you could just select a civie from a particular side, so as to leave ou the dodgy mission.sqm changes, plus the annoying change back intoa soldier thing when you go into thier options again :/

If you want to make civvies to a certain side, simply group them under a leader of whatever side you want them to be on (East, West or Resistance), then set that leader's chance of appearing to 0% with the slider.

Oh sorry, in your first post it sounded as if you didn't know how to add weapons to them. Sorry.

Well, you could just the "gimble throwers" addon, de-pbo it, look at the cpp.config file, get rid of their rocks and stuff that they throw, and exchange them for weapons. Then change their side to "East". Finally compile it back into a .pbo file and walla! You got armed civys! Of coarse this would overwrite the exhisting Gimble addon unless you it's possible to rename the .pbo file without renaming all the texture paths and crap. But since the textures are not new, this might be possible.

The same could be done with Kegetys's Smith & Wesson addon which uses civilians although he probably wouldn't want you doing that to his addon unless the .pbo file was renamed and he was given full credit.

At any rate, I'm sure any of the addon makers here could very easily make for you a nice little civy addon that will put them on the "EAST" side (so they fight the police) and armed with various pistols and other weapons. It shouldn't be that difficult to do. There has been talk before about doing a "gangster" mod but I'm not sure about whatever came of that.

But until then, just use the method I described in the previous post and you'll get the same results. It's a little more work but it has the one BIG advantage of not requiring people to download extra addons to play your missions.

Yeah =) I just tried what Major Fubar said, it works best I think.. Also no worry about the man changing into a soldier =D

Not having to edit the .sqm is the best part though =D

put a civilian in front of a soviet soldier in the editor. the civilian will hit the dirt. give the civilian a gun and he will shoot the russian. smile.gif

they can fight!

YEeh, try it with a Police unit and a squad of East troops. The cop will blow them all away and the East soldiers won't even return fire!  tounge.gif
