Looking for Developers

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

(Maybe be posted in wrong place, but I honestly don't know where to put it... at this point).

Anyways-

I have been working on a project with some friends and other people I sought out. The current team has a range of skills that I will describe below. In terms of the project we are working on a custom life mod from scratch. Everything we do, want must be custom made from scratch. Please don't judge just because its a life mod - we are actually trying to do some special things aka take some GTA 5 concepts and a few other things.

Team information: We have about 6 modelers --> (2 gun modelers, 2 small objects, 2 building modelers), Most of the modelers aren't familiar with the Arma 3 Engine. We have one texture artist - who we just acquired so he's learning since our other one left. We have 3 web developers (one very skilled). Further, we have 4 graphics artists ( 2 are in college doing it as a major). Lastly, we have 2 main coders. One coded for the US Navy (he is well skilled), another codes/scripts for his college and is majoring in it. He plans to make a social media app as well which he is working on.

What am I looking for?We need help. We have been working hard for a month, but we lack well experienced developers. I have tried to recruit some but they seem to not help or join. Any help is welcomed, but we desperately need help in the engineering filed, animation and assistance in any type of coding/scripting. If you wanna help out just reply below and I'll get in contact with you and discuss in more detail.

EDIT-

I don't know how I forgot this...

We also have a really good map developer (my PoV). He learned it over a months time on his own. He is working on two maps one for us and one for the public.

EDIT-

FYI,

We could use modelers and other developers out there...again any help is welcomed :)!

Thanks,

KingAlmond

If I wasn't essentially homeless I'd apply. Is there pay involved?

Yes at this point pay is involved. It depends on how skilled you are, and what number value you ask for. (And obviously some other details)

Lol.

What I meant was like we'd wanna see some previous work or something before we hand out the dough to people we don't know.

Well I forwarded your links to our main coders and off a quick glance he said "he is good" - so...in terms of payment what figure were you looking at and would you wanna take this to PMs, skype, steam etc? Or just keep it here?

I sent you a PM. We can keep it there. Then TS or w/e you use afterwords (if applicable).

Interesting. I am familiar with sqf and could possibly be interested in helping out. There's a few things that I'd like to know first, though, such as:

Overall progress (just a rough %tage is fine)

Future plans (are we trying to get a working beta, then release while improving, or wait until it's finished and bug-tested before releasing)

Your personal role in the project (also, no offense, but why do you have 3 web-developers? Is there a currently-playable version available that needs a website?)

Your reason for doing this in the first place

Feature list and detailed progress report (use asterisks to mark progress, none for 0%, 5 for 100%)

I was also hoping you would clarify this:

we desperately need help in the engineering field

Animation falls under graphic design, unfortunately for your 4 graphic artists, so you can put them to work :) Not sure why you need 4 artists when you already have a texturer and 6 modelers though

Thanks a lot. I'm interested in reading your response.

1)Overall progress (15%)

2)Future plans(We released Alpha wasn't very good, but right now Alpha is all about adding content and doing any major fixes that breaks anything. Beta will be about fixing as many bugs as possible that are found and find as many bugs. Then we'd go public.)

3)My role is project director/head etc, whatever you wanna call it - I recruit people, set the overarching goals, pay the money from my own pocket, deal with other issues (PR) and other things.

Well we have our team is skilled in different areas than one thing. For example one of our main coders (knows most of the web languages so he helps makes the site when he can). Right now we are running off of pathetic enjin since we just needed it to gather some support. But we recently acquired Xenforo at a cheap price from a friend, and are developing that. Yes there is a playable version but no one plays it, 1) hard to DL, 2) No real community, 3) its Alpha I guess...:/

4)We have free time, bored and just wanna try to offer the Arma players something new if possible.

Features list:

1) Overall mission file (coding aspect)* 1 big script, handful of small scripts.

2) Custom brand new map --> height = 65% ; sat= 65% ; mask= 40% ; config= 50% ; towns/cities/hideouts =25% ; clutter= 40% ; layers/textures= 40%

3) Melee weapons* (very few)

4) Custom pistols/rifles etc* 3 pistols , taser , m16

5) Cars* (A lot need to be tested and tweaked.)

6) Clothing

7) Accessory clothing (hats/mask)

8) Other misc items (trash cans/traffic items/other things)*

(I prob missed a few but that is what I got at the moment)

Well our modelers can model but they struggle to get their objects in game, thrown on configs, add geometry/substance to large objects. However, our coders are more than capable of doing everything except adding geometry, but they have lives, codes and do other things. (You can only work so hard sadly). So I started looking for someone who would only take objects and basically do the last 10% of the job.

Two of them have been looking into it but they are a bit turned off from trying to animate. Well the team was built like this for ex: a modeler makes an object and gives it to a texturer who applies the texturers. And we brought them on board for the reason they are willing to learn more developing skills than just being artists.

Hopefully that sorts some things out.

This does sound interesting, seeing how unlike most that come in looking for people for big projects, don't have any to start with, but to hit another point that Dreaded brought up about what your role is in the whole scheme of things, will you be publishing this as "yours" or will there be a team/group front?

I wouldn't be interested in payment, some of the forum regulars that have talked with me in TS will laugh at what I'm about to say, but if you need help concepting anything I'm good for that, and myself, Dreaded, and a few others from these forums talk regularly on my TS and usually end up working through ideas/errors/etc. I also bring a good amount of scripting knowledge to the table.

My work can be found below in my signature (if I seem useful :p).

No, I am not taking credit for this project as mine. It is a team effort, everyone will be credited for whatever they may create. It will be released as (Name) Development Team.

Based off my knowledge your work looks good. Regarding, payment - it is a choice if you don't want it then so be it :). From my understanding, you basically work together on projects with other people in your TS? If you want to jump on board, I suggest we do a meeting on teamspeak, mine or yours, whichever works. I am best free, Sunday & Monday after 4 PM EST USA(I can check for more days if need be).

I wouldn't say the Public Community Scripters Lounge is a project based group, just more of, well a lounge, a place to hang out, have a few laughs, and the occasional smaller projects that we decide to do, but overall it's just a means by which to keep some traffics off of the forums because people can come in and directly ask the people that would have responded on the forums anyhow :p.

And we can work a time out later, I may also see what Dreaded thinks about the whole thing as well before I jump in, as he is a better asset in my opinion (compared to myself) and I respect what his opinion is too :D.

Alright well just let me know your decision(when you decide) and we'll go from there. (Hopefully) something works out.

However your link doesn't seem to work

That's weird, I guess forum search links expire after a while. My link was just a link to all of my started threads. I just updated the link, not sure if it'll work for you though.

Go here http://forums.bistudio.com/search.php and type my name into the "User Name" field and click search now

Well it ain't bad to me. Would be of nice use to have you on board.

Not sure if you require payment or not. We can have a meeting if you wish to continue further as well on TS or something. Maybe at the same time your colleague, Jshock, could attend such a meeting.

I'm good with concepts/idea board but I don't really know if you want/need one of those so yea...basically I make a lot of missions, and my GTAltis missions are well known on the workshop 0_o

Well, ideas can help, more brains the better in that regard. I am sure we'd love to have you on board based off your previous work - if you want to continue, we can set up a meeting time.

a custom life mod from scratch

Seeing as there are already countless (sometimes heavily modified) life servers of all sorts around... what is there that REALLY sets your idea apart?

Just saying: The community could use some new alternatives instead of more and more copies of the same thing. Where's the point in that?

I'd say a proper Zombie mod with civilian zombie character models, new environments and Cold War era weapons would be much better than an another life mod.

I have some agreeances here :p.

Well...we are trying to implement GTA aspects of dynamic things. We want to remove this whole concept of Civ v. Cops and add it more like actual civilian life. Where a civ can choose whatever he wants, have and endgame of ownership and more. Like we have a slight concept of adding stock market, train system and an airport system. We'd have these buy-able by civs - so its not 24/7 kill kill cops. We wanna try to push the standard I guess.

Also if this life-mod kicks off nicely, we plan to do more things. We want to make a community that keeps developing for Arma basically, but that is a long shot.

Eh...the whole survival aspect has been beat to death. I mean we got The Forest, Stranded some sh*t, H1Z1 etc. If anything we will add some survival aspects to the life mod. Ex: In-depth crafting through resources, maybe implement a sh*t and piss animation, and other things.
