Defunkt 431 Posted November 21, 2014 You didn't say that. Read it again. Very happy for them to provide a UI for setting FOV, I didn't say anything at all on that count. What I explained is why it should not be dubbed (or compared to) a 'console FOV'.
Janez 531 Posted November 21, 2014 I was really surprised by lack of FoV option when Arma 3 got released tbh. I have it at 100° horizontal on 16:10 (1920x1200) 24" monitor and I sit around 1.20m away. Anything less then 100 just feels weird to me in any game. Including 3rd person shooters (i.e. Mass Effect 3). Some people were saying that in Arma 2, if you changed the FoV, your scope mil dots and whatnot were off. I wonder if that is really the case. vran. 13 Posted November 21, 2014 It appears Red Orchestra 2 has a FOV slider but only lets you slide it to 75. The game is not on consoles either. I guess it's just a trend or something... :p
rawalanche 13 Posted November 21, 2014 It really depends if FoV is horizontal or vertical. Sometimes even 75° can be enough, it all depends how you count and interpret it. The problem is that there are multiple ways to interpret FoV, which is one of the problems. Main point though, is that in game FoV control present in options should really be standard for any PC game. It does not compromise defaults in any way. Simply, whoever needs to change it, they will change it, and those who don't need to change it won't ever touch it at all.

Yer thats the same BS thats said about gamma and brightness yet we all know players who play PvP night missions and turn up the Gamma and brightness to make it like daytime. A zoom slider you say cool idea :)

Gamma is completely unrelated thing. I have no idea why anyone would put that into the game. It's just means of correctly interpreting linear color data on sRGB monitors. Monitor should be properly calibrated outside of the game, and no one should do such tweaks per application. FoV is a different story. It's a matter of people either getting motion sick of playing the game, or not. In game like ArmA, FoV simply can not be exploited in any way. Yes, you can make your FoV extremely wide, and see larger peripheral area than other players see, but you are also permanently zoomed out, so while players with default FoV see a clear silhouette of a soldier, you see them as a tiny pixel as you are zoomed a lot further out than they are. It's a tradeoff between acuity of peripheral and central vision, but at the same time, it's not intended to tweak these aspects, but simply to allow players play the game comfortably, without any nausea. If players who take competing very seriously aren't worried about it being unfair, why would you be?
