betterhidegood 10 Posted October 8, 2014 Hi all, I'll start by saying arma 3 is probably the only game me and the wife will play for the next 2-3 years! We are massively addicted to alot of the mods. Currently I have bought us both matching setups, (I5 3570K @ 4.5GHZ, GTX 760 2GB SC, 8GB ADATA RAM 1600MHZ) And for the most part every mod is playable at almost full ultra. KOTH however is our favorite mod. Before you say FPS is server related I talk to people in KOTH all the time who claim to get 35-60 FPS during gunfights in a city. Ours fall just shy of that at 28-35 FPS during city gun fights and 50-70 at base. My question is which part should I upgrade to achieve that extra 5-10 FPS that is needed to stay above 30. I'm sure it will be either GPU or CPU.
kbbw123 115 Posted October 8, 2014 With your specs you should have above 30 FPS even in a city battle... the only thing i can think of is that it is truly server related. it doesn't only concern the server itself its also where it s located and what your connection to it is. if you have even a little desync to the server you will loose fps. aso make sure that you dont have any secondary programs running on your pc while playing. these can also ask allot of performance

I think it could be partly because of only having 4 cores. Either way I have great ping on these servers and no background processes running. Also my FPS and hers are exactly the same which leads me to believe it is def hardware related. So if you were going to upgrade which would it be? If I upgrade cpu it will be the I7 4790k. Gpu will go to gtx 980. thanks in advance!

Greenfist 1863 Posted October 8, 2014 (edited) betterhidegood, your 4 cores are just fine. Anything more will not help. I don't think any kind of upgrade will either. I've played some KOTH and I always have 25-35 fps in big city fights on a full server. When there's less than 40-50 players, the fps is mostly well above 40. If people say they're having more than 40 on a server with 75 players, they're lying or didn't understand the question. I've asked the same thing a few times and everybody seem to be having the same low fps. I have a I5 @ 3.6GHz, GTX 660, 8GB RAM @ 1800 MHz Edited October 8, 2014 by Greenfist
betterhidegood 10 Posted October 8, 2014 Thanks for all the help guys.. Will probably get the new cpu anyway and try to clock it above 4.5... maybe 4.8? Also will be looking into faster ram thanks for the heads up! ---------- Post added at 08:24 ---------- Previous post was at 08:19 ---------- Also if anyone has specs that dont drop below 30 FPS in KOTH please reply! Greenfist 1863 Posted October 8, 2014 I wish someone with a super monster rig would check their fps on full KOTH server and then downclock/limit the speed to something like 3.0GHz/1300MHz ram and check again. I'd expect the fps would be the same. I would be very happy if I was wrong, so I'd get a reason to upgrade. :D
betterhidegood 10 Posted October 8, 2014 And thanks groove that does help a little as I do like running my aa and pp up... But it doesnt change fps much when I drop them or disable them bloom/blur/aa/pp etc... So I'm assuming that means CPU would be my best bet?
