Ofp's brdm

I was wondering...

Although the manual of Red Hammer says the version of the Russian armored jeep equivalent of the Humvee is the BRDM (assuming the BRDM-1), the official www.flashpoint1985.com site is showing the BRDM-2.

I have to admit that the hull of this armored car in the game looks more like the BRDM-2, although the standard version of this vehicle has a turret with a 14,5mm machine gun installed.

Can anyone drop some insight on the matter, with links to military sites with pictures if possible.

Thanx.

Thanx Nyles. I had exactly these FAS pages in mind. Now, if you notice the hull and general appearance of the BRDM-2 vehicle with that simulated in the game, it appears more of a turret-castrated version of the BRDM-2, than of the BRDM-1 as the manual implies.

The thing is: has there ever been a BRDM-2 armored car version without the turret? I haven't found info/pictures on the 'Net till now...

If anyone finds, please post them here!

I agree with Major Fubar, armor values for BRDM in OFP are wrong compared to Humvee confused.gif.

I agree! And I wonder why the haven't addressed this error so far. BRDM's should be able to resist anything less an RPG or direct hit by hand-grenade. Instead, they die instantly...

And I really loved this vehicle in the last missions of Red Hammer and all single missions I've seen it.

Thanx N.o.R.S.u,

but this version (BRDM-2U) is the command version with added electronics and antenna for coordination duties.

This is definitely NOT the version included in the game. No opening hatch either... confused.gif

I assume that BIS just quickly needed an unarmed vehicle to balance with the hummer to a certain degree for that patch. Note that the in-game version doesn't even come with the small topside hatches as seen on the photos but with a huge top hatch, which basically transforms the vehicle into a cabrio. wink.gif

Just like with many units, BIS didn't research much, especially in the field of armour stats, yes. Maybe there will be slight changes with an upcoming patch, though. Well, most likely not, still it would be nice.

If BIS adds new units via updates ever again, I would really like to see more varients of already existing units like an unarmed (or with PK) Mi-17, another Ural version without the cover (just like with the 5-ton now), an PK and AT-launcher armed UAZ, a BRDM with MG turret or AA, a hummer with 50cal, TOW or AA, etc.. etc.. etc..

The base for all these models would be existing units, basically minimizing work. I already hoped that Resistance would add the coverless truck and armed uaz at least to add some variety to the campaign, but you all know that it didn't happen. BIS, please, we need variety. Even a missile launcher on a wheeled chassis would be possible if you do it. Afterall you worked in pistols, too. It is your engine, you for sure could warp it to your needs. smile.gif
