Resistance - a tribute

Recommended Posts

Congratulations to all at BIS on a job well done!

Resistance has exceeded my expectations, the graphics are mind-blowing, even old islands have totally new look on them. You couldn't believe you're playing the same game after setting terrain detail to normal or higher. No more flat plains, now the terrain has realistic depressions and elevations, along with plentiful vegetation it offers good protection for infantry and tanks.

Weapon addons etc. show good imagination, pistols and especially old FN-FAL was a very welcome addon. Needless to say the new houses look very realistic, especially the concrete Soviet-style aparment buildings.

But what struck me most, the ofp multiplayer-only freak, is that the single-player campaign is gripping and the story is very powerful. In my opinion, it's much better than Red Hammer or 1985 campaigns. Along with elements of troop preservation, skill system and stealing more weaponry from invaders the campaign has me totally hooked on it!

Taken together, the Resistance expansion is totally new kind of experience and no ofp owner can't afford to miss it!

Hes not lying either.

It is a big upgrade to the original game I think, though the missions seem less complex than the original ones and the story is told via a series of extended cut scenes. The longest one i have seen so far is right at the start.

I was impressed by the bus stops, the posters in side them and that rustry reminant of what used to be bin or something. Such detail is great to see:)

Lots of fixes to the old annoying in game bugs too, i see sniping from windows becoming popular now (no more walking through walls), though the top of that huge building that the guy has his office in will become a place most people check in a lot of user missions I think.

The campaign missions are the sort of action most players wanted all along. Eg large battles. Though your own forces are pretty weak in most them of but thats not a problem the russians have.

So far ive seen base assaults, Town assaults, huge Armour to armour battles. Base Defence (ambush). Convoy Ambushes and few of the usual sneak here and shoot stuff missions.

Very entertaining i think.

Right now Im assaulting an airbase with a 5 man team taking on around 50 infantry and 3 bmps.

Personally I am kinda disappointed about the bus since they said it would move around on its own timetable, and I have tried placing buses and whatever but it seems it was all just scripted sad.gif

Err yes of course it would be scripted, it's like the script=driver, would a real bus go anywhere without the driver? smile.gif

What I meant was I got the impression that all buses would automatically go around on a little route waiting for civilians at bus stops etc but as far as I can see you have to do it all yourself sad.gif

If this WAS the case it would have been a step towards a more living, breathing dynamic island that you don't have to put there yourself and tell everyone exactly what to do, but it certainly doesn't seem to be like that sad.gif

Naaah I never got that impression, but of course as you rightly say it would be fantastic, same with farmers automatically plowing their fields in tractors, civilians wandering around the towns, driving the roads, stopping and talking to each other, lil shit like that would just add sooooo much more smile.gif

Maybe despite all these wonderful addons we need someone to sit down and create a collection of civvy scripts that add those things smile.gif

I had a quick look, but I couldn't see it. Where can the FAL be found?

I can't find it either. You have to add it manually I think. Put this into a unit's init field:

removeallweapons this; this removemagazines "(unit's weapon's mag name)"; this addmagazine "FALmag"; this addweapon "FAL"

I think anyway...

Well, you can just simply put an Ammo Crate in the editor (weapons crate west, east or resistance) and grab the new guns from there, like UZI, FAL, G3 and rest...

NO stuff in the init field needed.

In light of the topic title;

I am extremely impressed with Resistance. I thought it would just be a big addon, but it's much more I find.

Things that I enjoy the most from Resistance:

1. Drop/Put objects (been on my wishlist for long time) biggrin.gif

2. The large east european buildings. (remind me of home) confused.gif

3. Keeping the weapons you find.

4. Handguns... finally!

5. Bridge..... A real bridge! I can't believe it.

Definately worth the cashmoney.

Can't wait to convert some of my missions to Resistance status.

ACK!!!

I was under that impression too, GFX. Damn. If I ever actually finish work on my "Living Islands" and if OFP:R is ever released in the US I'll put the bus in there properly and on it's proper schedule.

I think it might be simple to create a "living" island. You can easily extract the postion of textures and objects from the wrp file. Then you just have to place random cars on streets, civilians near houses and so on. Hmm.. might even be a project worthy of devoting some time to..

The major problem, as I see it is that you don't want civis all over the island in large numberes because it will slow down the system. On the other hand dynamical spawning or teleportation of units would suck big time too... well, It's worth some thinking over..
