Marksman Tips [Minimal Discussion]

The purpose of this thread is to share your tips on weapon handling, advice on the usage of weapons, or any tips / tricks you have learned in the operation of infantry based weapon systems.

This applies to anything you can carry including launchers, packable UAVs, sniper rifles, pistols, crew served weapons [Man-Packable HMGs, Mortars, etc.], grenade launchers, or whatever fits.

Please try and keep this to vanilla weapon systems, but if there is a mod that does a good job with features already in the game feel free to post your helpful tip.

And please, stick to the topic at hand. This thread is to help learn.

I remember when I tried manipulate with Joystick on crew remote served weapons on

Otokar Cobra

(focus on the middle of the picture)

And when you move it the camera have certain sway, is not as floaty as with mouse.

My suggestion is to have sway when you are using remote stations on this systems.

I believe red orchestra uses that in vehicles

When your target is in the x50 range, you go one zeroing higher on equal or higher elevation shots.

For example I am on this hill and this enemy is in this tower. My rangefinder says 363. So I zero my scope to 400m and aim right through the scope iron or adjustable scope.

Get a mouse with extra buttons on the side so you can key bind zoom in and out like my razor deathadder. If you have more just like my friend, you can bind your zeroing so it's much faster.

Map your hold breath key to another button than zoom in (which is the default setting). So you can zoom in and only hold your breath without running out of air when you finally want to shoot.

I use left CRTL for hold breath and Mouse 4/Mouse 5 for Zoom in / Zoom out.

I guess I'll start this off how I intended it to...

Intro

The DMS, or Designated Marksman Sight, is a Medium to Long-Range Optic used mainly on CSAT's Rahim marksman rifle. This sight's design originated from the optics commonly found on the Russian made SVD Dragunov. This optic is very popular due to its ease of use and user friendliness.

Rangefinding

A common problem when accurately engaging targets is knowing the range. Fortunately, the DMS has a built in rangefinding mechanism. It is located at the bottom of the sight picture, and looks like two lines with one curving. To use the rangefinder, simply put the feet of the target on the bottom line. Move the sight from right to left until the target's head touches the top or dotted line. Then just read the numbers. For example, if the target's head touches the top line between the 4 and the 5 mark, then the target is at about 450 meters.

Using the Optic

To actually use the optic is a little more daunting at first, but it is quite easy. Running down the center of the sight picture is 4 chevrons, marking 400, 600, 800, and 1000 meters when zeroed to 400 m. Keep in mind that those ranges will change if you have the zeroing adjusted to anything other than 400 m. I have made a diagram to better explain this.

I'm skeptical of the accuracy in that diagram. I believe that the tips of the chevrons are indeed 300 600 800 1000, but the bottoms don't seem like what you describe.

Here the red lines are 100m intervals. If they were accurate, they would be more evenly spaced, with the spacing getting larger as you go down.
