Yuval 29 Posted May 3, 2014 So yeah! I bought ArmA 2 Comb Ops at 2012 (Because of DayZ Mod :D). A few weeks ago I started asking myself how to make my own dayz mod? I read a 30(ish) pages PDF file about ArmA's scripting language. I read a hour long tutorial on terrain - Visitor 3 (which seems to be complicated, so I read it all and abandoned it! All I remember is rvmat files, satellite and color files and some weird black and white map that makes it look like terrain), I thought about reading on Oxygen 2 but it seems pointless. I have all I need over armaholic I guess? I don't know anything about making a mission in ArmA 2 outside the editor (with really small knowledge about the init expressions on units and vehicles when I want to give them a specific gun). I took a break of a few weeks to play some DayZ mod and SA. But suddenly, I found myself in the last 4 to 6 hours (can't measure anymore), looking at different addons, for my own mod at Armaholic. Obviously I don't know what to do further than organizing them in the Addons folder, puttings bikeys in the Keys folder and making text files about addons I downloaded, authors and the Armaholic page of the addons incase I need it. But I downloaded an island, vehicles (land, sea and air), units (yeah, 30 ghillie suits, winter specops and misc) and weapons. I tested the vehicles in the editor already and made sure everything is working fine. The island is good and it all seems perfect now . It seems like I am ready to actually make something out of it instead of a folder called @unnamed_dayz_mod, where inside it you'll see 2 folders (Addons and Keys). I know it isn't anywhere close to a mod, and if I'll grab some PBOs from the latest DayZ mod release and try to edit them won't get me anywhere (right now). But I don't know what to do now? Before I even make a step further towards being a DayZ mod - what do I do now? Is there anything to do in order to get those PBOs a mod or a simple ArmA 2 mission? If any of you could give me a small explanation on what to do it would be great! I would actually be happy to get some detailed explanations too. I really wanna try to make a mod (preferably a DayZ mod ofcourse) for ArmA 2. Notes - a - I didn't use the search button, sorry. b - The map/island/terrain I use was never ported to DayZ (I actually didn't pick it officially, I might need to look further for other maps like Napf and etc.. but knowing how to port maps would be awesome). c - My addons folder weights 1.3gb. But I don't need a very big part of it, it's just some PBOs which contain some guns/vehicles/units I wanted to have. If you could help me optimize out my "mod" to the above notes in addition to your answer, it could be great!
xxanimusxx 2 Posted May 3, 2014 So as far as I understand you, you want to make a mod for a mod, namely your own version of DayZ-Mod. That is no easy feat though, you have to manually change a ton of config values in the original dayz mod to get it working for your custom enviroment (item spawn locations, probabilities, zed spawn points etc.). You need to modify or completely rebuild the Database interface to match your map/vehicles. There is a reason why there are so few mods out there that excell, not everyone has the knowledge to build something complex, or has the people who do. If you really want to mod dayz, you should head over to DayZ related forums, you'll get more help there, trust me. DayZ made so many changes to the configs that you also won't get any support here, the peeps here hate everything which has to do with dayz :D
Harzach 2517 Posted May 4, 2014 ...the peeps RULES here hate everything which has to do with dayz :D Just a tiny correction ;) §8) Post in the right forum & right threadPlease ensure you make new threads in the correct forum, if you're unsure of which forum to post in feel free to ask a moderator. If a thread exists for the topic you wish to post about you must use it, for example all ACE questions belong in the ACE thread. All addon/mod questions belong in the thread for that addon/mod. In the case of DayZ discussions they should be posted on the DayZ forums, this includes problems with the Modification. The troubleshooting forum is not for problems with Addons and Mods! Yuval 29 Posted May 4, 2014 Yeah I wish to make a DayZ mod. But I want the modding community to guide me further. I have tons of addons and I have no idea what to do next. I will head to the DayZ forum once I know what I'm doing.
