duh. But the deformable terrain, the heightened interaction (kicking people, dragging wounded) is all scripting. Which leaves me wondering why you think this looks so cool

Some new skins and an unuseable chopper smile.gif?<span id='postcolor'><span id='postcolor'>

Well i htink the new Textures, weapons, fire, snow loads of asthetic stuff

ABout the scripts, thast all opflash is mad off, and i think its cool cause it immerses u into the game, i mean if u have played the Para_maps on DoD then the opening cutscenes add to the atmoshere.

There is only so much you can do with at least five-six year old engine. I suspect there is some great scripting being done, but the only way to really improve the AI is to start using a different engine.

CS and DoD have really extended Half Life's popularity, but the fact is that it is at it's core a mid 90's game and it's starting to show it's age. ANd with TF2 a no show, there really isnt something there to take up the slack. Has anyone seen/heard anything about TF2 lately?

No offense but u must not keep up with gaming news that involves TF2 and HL2, there was a press release about 2 or 3 months ago saying that TF2 was getting to the stage where they were going to start pumping out Pictures, vids and other types of media later in the year ill dig it out if i can find it.

What is the estimated release date?

Whether you want to face it or not, TF2 has been 'Coming Soon' much longer than the new Duke Nuke'em game. I went to the official TF2 forums and there is more talk about BF1942 than there is about TF2. I will be suitably impressed if they start hyping it again, but I will believe that it when I can go to the store and buy it. My bet is that we'll see OFP2 before TF2 smile.gif

Well it takes time to Build a new game also they where like 1 and 3/4 years already into development on the old engine so thye have had to build a new engine so they only been going like 2 or 3 years, also if u watch the progress u can see that TF2 is much alive as every patch there beta testing stuff for TF2 such as HLTV and voice coms built into the game. my personal estimate is mid 2003- end 2003 but it might be sooner we dont know, there was not much hype around HL which turned out to be the most inovative game of last century(which has not been surpassed).

OFP is every bit as innovative as HL was.

Half Life just happened to be a game took the Doom/Quake stly game and then told a story. And that was the first FPS that really did that. Not a lot of people have played Giants: Citizen Kabuto and in a lot of ways it is just as innovative as Half Life is.

Half Life did one thing differently. They opened up the game to allow it to be totally modded. And that is pretty much the only reason that it's still played. I recently replayed through Half Life again, and it didnt do nearly as much for me as replaying through the 1985 campaign did. Half Life was amazing for its time. But the fact is that others have taken the novel parts of what Half Life did, and built on it.

I'm not saying Half Life is a terrible game. It's still better than 80% of the dreck put out. But... there ARE good games. Deus Ex, OFP, Warcraft III... they all have excellent stories and captivating game play. TF2 at this point looks like a team based shooter, and that's about it. As far as I can read from their webpage, there isnt even going to be an SP component. So where is it going to be innovative?

TF2 is going to multiplayer Only while HL2 will be the single player part, also mods will be able to port with more ease than normal, u mention all these story driven games, HL started that trend for the masses and told u can have action with a plot, hey i replayed the HL sp its nothing special now but it was then, opflash is a good game but imho did not have enough (ie netcode), also im just about to go to college at 7:17 so ill get back to this, TF2 it was the 1st game to use LOD (i think), also the way MP i splayed out is an inovative way to play it out.

Bla bla bla. So the half-life engine is old, give Flashpoint a few years and I'm sure people will be saying exactly the same things about it. It's all very much relative.

I was merely pointing out that in 5-6 years time people may well be saying the very same things about Flashpoint, when some other piece of software is 'game of the moment'.

Of course in 6 bloody years the ofp engine'll be old,I won't be pretending that it isn't either, that's the whole point...

It's just getting so old...graphics are starting to get ugly in my eyes.

I dunno, after playing ofp i can't play most of those unrealistic shooters anymore.I played halflife again some more and it annoyed me to have to empty so many bullets in a single enemy.

I did really like Max Payne because it has a real action film atmosphere and allowed me to do much of the stuff i wanted to do in a shooter, dive behind counters and stuff.

I had one experience with CS and i hated it,bunnyhopping left, bunnyhopping right,AW front and back...fun,yeah.

THIS IS WHAT I LOVE ABOUT OFP:

If you see the enemy first and shoot him he will be dead. In aany other game the guy will eat a few of your bullets, do the bunny-jump, turn around and strike you down with his super-long-range-shotgun. So damn ridiculous.

Hmz, if you see some runnign around and you want to kill him you should aim for the head, they won't even have time to bunny hop.

I like playing more unrealistic games, it's great to just entertain yourself.....
