ravenmorpheus 1 Posted March 6, 2014 (edited) Hello I'm signed up to the dev branch, but I'm wondering why on an almost daily basis recently, given that the game went Gold as I understand it, at least out of Alpha/Beta, not so long ago, I'm getting updates of at least 250mb each time? It's becoming a chore, I start Steam, and then an Arma 3 update starts, that update takes 10-20 minutes on my internet connection by which time I've lost enthusiasm for even starting the game!! I would turn updates off on Steam but I'm concerned that one day I'll want to play the game, the game will tell me I'm being forced to update, and I'll have to download GB of data which will take hours!?! It's bad enough that the SP campaign is being drip fed and thus BIS are relying on community content and MP to satisfy players, but add in the constant updates I'm seeing, the time I have to wait for them to complete, and I haven't even started the game in weeks, thus I'm really not getting my monies worth out of the game!?!?! Maybe I should shelve the game and come back in a year or so, but I really hope BIS do sort something out quicker than that so that I can actually start playing the game without being put off by lack of SP content or constant updates that leave me needing to find something else to play for 10-30 minutes. byku 13 Posted March 6, 2014 ... that's like dev(elopment?) branch... mate ^^. Opt for a stable branch if you don't like updates. Being annoyed by game updates - epic :D.
nodunit 397 Posted March 6, 2014 (edited) You are aware that dev branch is essentially the WIP branch right? It receives a lot of patches because the devs are always trying new things and that is something that should be commended, not condemned. Several things that are tested on the dev branch don't even make it to the stable because something didn't mesh well, and if you don't like the constant patches then opt out of dev branch and go stable, you'll see patches faaaar less frequently. Nicholas 5 Posted March 6, 2014 As Byku stated, it is a development branch. They are going to continually develop the game and let users test features and help iron out bugs before an update on the stable branch. I would recommend you switch to the stable branch. Ranwer135 308 Posted March 6, 2014 Ill have to agree. Even the non-WIP is wasting my internet data and money. Please make a real full release in retail when your done patching the game, BI. :)
ratszo 17 Posted March 6, 2014 Cabin fever ..., you think there's too many updates? --I think my cat is gonna murder me in my sleep! You think you got problems? [maniacal laugh] "Here Kitty..., here kitty kitty kitty...."
purepassion 22 Posted March 6, 2014 Hello RavenMorpheus, even with the game having had its proper release, the team is still working on it to improve and add new features and content. The development branch represents the current state of development and servers as a public testbed for experimental fixes, additions and improvements. If you're having problems with downloading data, that's unfortunately hard luck on your end. You are free to switch to the stable branch and only receive the major and tested patches. Most servers run this version anyways. Before more people jump on your neck, I'll close this thread.
