IndeedPete 1038 Posted February 18, 2014 Hello there, I'm currently struggeling with an intro in which some time should pass by in very fast motion. Basically I'm looking for an effect like in the first 30 seconds of this video: My problem is that I can't get it that fast without causing severe performance issues. SetAccTime seems not to work for coefficients > 4 and using skipTime in a loop only works with very short steps; otherwise the framerate drops to dia show level. But short steps make the whole intro take longer in real time. It should just be 10 or 20 seconds long in total as I don't want to bore the player with minutes of just watching the day-night-cycle. Any idea how I can cut down 34 hours to 10-20 seconds and create the effect like in the video without killing the performance?
IndeedPete 1038 Posted February 19, 2014 Sorry to bump this, but I wasn't able to find a working solution yet.
ProfTournesol 956 Posted February 19, 2014 It's probably the video itself that was accelerated, not the game.
fusion13 11 Posted February 19, 2014 Yea I agree with ProfTournesol they prob did what you are doing then speed the video up even more
Kydoimos 916 Posted February 19, 2014 IndeedPete - I might be able offer some help here! Do you have a greenscreen enabled video editing package? Basically, if you want to create an effect where everything is moving fast (time lapse, clouds racing over head, etc.) and you wish to keep, say, a soldier or figure in normal animation (or even slow motion) insert a blank green 10M User Texture behind the unit you wish to capture. Record the unit. Now record the sky or the fast moving background you wish to record. Then, in an editing suite, put the two together and play the background at a faster speed. There's a trial version of Pinnacle 16, which is what I use (not sure if you get the greenscreen feature with the trial however). ---------- Post added at 19:05 ---------- Previous post was at 19:02 ---------- What I'd love to know is how on earth they did the BIS-like flickering text in that video? IndeedPete 1038 Posted February 19, 2014 Hm, you might be right, they could have accelerated the video itself. Thank you for the responses but using videos software and greenscreens and other complex stuff might be a little too much. (And I don't have any experience in this.) I will stall this project for a while and think of a temporary solution. It's just a small intro with two snipers waiting still in their position until their target finally arrives. I will think of something.
Kydoimos 916 Posted February 19, 2014 Let me know if you've got the footage - I have the greenscreen tech. - could do it for you if you don't need it in a massive hurry (few weeks?)
