Serious comp trouble

I have had ths seroius problem with my computer. Every time I would start the computer, it would freeze or restart AUTOMATICALLY every time when it came to the desktop after a few seconds. So I went and got my comp fixed, and the only thing the guys did was format and reinstall windows. Now that i have my computer back, every thing is going fine, but I fear the problem will come back soon because 2 hours ago it restarted without my authority. Does anyone know what is causing this problem, is it my windows, or hard drive, mobo, or what. I would also like to know what does "turning off the hard disks" in the power options mean, and can this cause the problem. Thanx in advance.

Powering down the hard drives is part of the power management that allows your system to conserve energy. Even when it is enabled, it won't power down the drives unless there is a preset period of inactivity, i.e. your system is idle. Enabling this feature won't do any harm.

If your system reboots spontaneously, I would check the following:

1. Remove and reseat all expansion cards and memory modules.

2. Try to swap out the memory module(s) to see if it is bad.

3. Make sure you don't overclock any system components.

4. Consider replacing the power supply. A weak or failing PSU can cause lockups or reboots.

I had this problem too with a computer less than a month old. But my problem would be when I'm surfing this or 1 or 2 other forums. I'd click on a link, and my computer would restart. It never crashed playing any games or other apps. And it would never crash at a porn site, only when I was clicking in this forum This problem only lasted for maybe 2 weeks, and now it's fine. It was the damnest thing. And I tried using differnt web browsers, IE, Netscape, even Opera, all had the same problem of random restarts. But all is fine now, so I just go on with my life.
