Mister Fox 10 Posted January 16, 2014 Hello everyone! I just purchased ArmA II as well as the original ArmA and ArmA Tactics as part of the new Humble Weekly Sale. I am mainly focusing on ArmA II, as I've heard quite a lot about it. One of the thing's I've heard (and seen firsthand) is the rather complicated and clunky control system. I mainly play Battlefield (I know, noobish) and I'm concerned about whether or not I will be able to play and enjoy playing this game. Is there a way to simplify the controls to make them feel more like the mainstream FPS games? I'm OK with losing some functionality in this as well. Also, first post W00T
punkatux 10 Posted January 16, 2014 There is a way, just go to the options ---> controls and rebind them so it fits your needs. But isn't that obvious? There is also nice manual (printed in box copy, and PDF version is in game folder) that categorizes the controls by coloring the keys, splitting the keyboard into few sections, taking a look at it might help. Wish you nice experience in your new games.
Joe98 91 Posted January 16, 2014 1. There are tutorials. Play through them and change the key bindings as you see fit. 2. There is "the armoury". Here you are a single soldier and you are given various types of missions at random with a large range of weapons. As you play through the armoury and get familiar with the game, again you might tweak the key bindings. It took me 2 months of regular play to reach that point. 3. In the armoury, the only time you control other men is when you are a vehicle commander. As a test, have all the crew get out of the vehicle and then command the men as though you have a squad of 2 or 3 or 4 men. Come back and ask us about commanding men in the game. 4. In "My Missions" the game makes you a squad leader and gives you missions at random. You choose the size of your squad. Your "squad' could be men, or vehicles or tanks or aircraft. Here you really learn how to command units in the game. Have fun! I am up to day approx. 1,200 since I got the game :)

If you play it battlefieldstyle infantary, then you just need theese: - WSAD for mowement - YXC for stance - QandE for lean or roll when prone. - V for vault over small fences - F for changing firemode and switching to grenades, throwables. - G for gear - R reload or hold breath - B binoculars - M map - K compas - O watch - N night vision Other stuff can be done by action menu (middlemouse) There is also important button for freelook but i dont remember default key for it. i have it on mouse thumb button. If you are commanding a squad then you need just know that soldiers are selected by F keys, and then just find needed command in menus under numerical buttons below Fkeys. forexample 7 is for stance and behaviour, 8 is for formation etc. It is few years since i last time played CoD or BF series game, so i cant remember for sure, bud i think theres not much of a difference betveen controls in arma and those games. gavc 28 Posted January 20, 2014 My advice is to get onto a multiplayer server as soon as you can. Find a decent group/server and play regularly there. You'll learn much faster, and there is quite a bit to learn. I know a lot of people are only into single-player games, but this is one that you will really miss out on if you limit yourself like that. Gav
