The Hebrew Hammer 10 Posted November 2, 2013 One of my biggest gripes with the AI in BIS games is that they are cautious, and AI mods typically make the AI better, but still remain cautious. I have limited scripting abilities, but if there's anyone else who also is somewhat frustrated at times with the AI who would be willing to help out, that would be great. The goal is to gives the AI a much more aggressive mindset. My ideas for the mod would be the following: Add a new AI behavior called "attack". This can either be set in the editor for AI not under player control, or on the fly for your AI squad. When set to "attack" AI will completely ignore gunfire, grenades, artillery, etc. When given a move waypoint they will charge in whatever formation you give them without any regard for their own safety, they will not stop running unless they are wounded in the legs and cannot continue or until they get within 150m of the enemy. When they get within 150m at this point they will try to set a base of fire for a short amount of time, then attempt to leapfrog in 50m intervals, again disregarding their own safety during these bounding movements. Why? Altis features a lot of open and exposed terrain, both hilly and flat. There are often situations where the only option to get out of a bad ambush is to push through it. AI and suppression mods are great 85% of the time, however when you need your squad to haul ass somewhere because they're exposed, the AI will almost always elect to hug the ground instead of taking the risk. This would also provide a challenge to the player to plan his or her initiation of contact a bit more carefully knowing that some OPFOR units may also choose to attack through an ambush. gagi 10 Posted November 8, 2013 sounds great but I think you should ask in tpwcas thread. It's probably possible to include some delay after suppression to become at least as deadly as vanilla :) More with tpwcas as a base : it should be MultiPlayer & HC compliant. There are too many AI mods ...
Make Love Not War 10 Posted November 8, 2013 (edited) Strange how we can be playing the same game and have completely opposite opinions regarding the AI. I've always felt that ARMA AI are far too aggressive and would greatly benefit from a mod that forces them to prioritize self-preservation over trying to kill the enemy at all costs. Also, when caught in an ambush, trying to push directly through the kill zone and into the enemy positions sounds like a desperation tactic that would almost never be used IRL. The correct response is to escape the kill zone ASAP rather than go directly through it. It'd be a major tactical blunder to set-up an ambush where the easiest route out of the kill zone would be to assault the your positions, no? mihikle 2 Posted November 8, 2013 Push through an ambush in the same way you were going or towards the enemy. If you retreat, you will hit the cut-off group, and be killed. If you stay in the killing-zone, you will be pinned, and then killed. If you advance towards the enemy, there's a chance you'll destroy him. If you push through the ambush asap, there's even more chance of living. This sounds like a pretty good concept, but I don't think the AI in ArmA (or any other game) are clever enough to distinguish between a time when they should pull back, and a time where they should peg it forwards as you're suggesting. A lot of things are ground dependent and concurrent activities of the rest of your platoon(s) or other assets. Sounds like an interesting concept if you can get it to work however!
