pricey0804 1 Posted October 30, 2013 Hi, it's just an idea, but because 32-bit applications only use a maximum of 2GB RAM, could this possibly be why there are millions of threads such as 'low FPS' ? I've checked everyone's specs when they make these threads and there are setups that are worth £1000's and they all suffer from low FPS. If Bohemia were to develop a 64-bit application of the game, it would allow the game to utilize everyone's full RAM. Like I said, it's an idea, but it makes lots of sense to me. I hope others can also see where I'm coming from. Thanks, Pricey.
EDcase 87 Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) Hi, I suggest to search the forum. This subject has been discussed to death... Long story short: Its harder than you thing to make it 64bit and there would be NO performance increase. Edited October 30, 2013 by EDcase
windies 11 Posted October 30, 2013 I'm not entirely convinced there would be no performance increase when they're so strapped for addressable memory that they exhaust both virtual and physical 32 bit addressing limitations and then have to use a file mapping API to increase their addressing space rather than just adopting 64 bit addressing. Their entire addressing structure is a tad "mickey moused" and it seems that the only thing holding them back from adopting 64 bit addressing is that it's "too hard". Fushko 59 Posted October 30, 2013 I believe they haven't ported the game to 64 bit because that would leave the 32 bit users behind. This is what I heard from a mod some time ago. If that's the reason, they should at least acknowledge that: 1) Using old tech will hold us back 2) There are games where you can toggle 64 bit mode on/off before launching the application, wonder if that would be possible with A3 Yes, I know that porting the whole game to 64 bit would bring lots of bugs, but still... Then I might be wrong.
