Add tutorial on comms

a tutorial for useage of comms and overal organization is strongly required in order to make public arma 3 games to be any playable.

ffs build in shack tac hud by default already and make a tutorial which says what channel to use when.

for example exmplain people that they should talk on group channel when they talk inside a squad. make side channel restricted for squad leaders

and ffs explain people how to use comms and may be just may be explain people the basics of teamplay withing a squad (2 fireteams concept) so atleast in arma 3 public gameplay would not be so miserable as it was since arma 1.

scrubs don't know how to play within a team. make tutorial for them. explaining the basics of gameplay is devs job, not community

It wont matter either way, you play in a totally public, non-moderated server and the gameplay is going to be crap, tutorials or not. There are way more idiotic players who just wanna run around shooting anything that moves than there are players who actually want to get things done.

I thought the idiotic players went to play COD or Battleshit, so we in Arma could be free for the stupidity.

they went after dayz and arma 3. some of them are completely hopeless cases, for example, people who run around as headless chichen with superiority complex over bf and cod players because they play arma, but have no clue how to work within a team or atleast some sort of organized gameplay. i guess tryhard is better term to describe it.

thats the most amusing part, seriously.

I don't think it's about complex over this or that. It's about choosing the right game for ones temperament.

And not everyone fits into Arma.

Maybe i'm totally overlooking the point here, but CapsLock is the default key to use Comms. , & . are used to cycle between the channels. Blue is side chat, white is global chat, dark yellow is vehicle chat, light yellow is commanders chat, purple is direct communication (IE; whoever's around you will hear it). You simply cycle to the correct channel and push your hotkey to talk in that channel. I don't understand why there would need to be a tutorial or video explaining this. These are basic fundamentals & I highly doubt someone who doesn't care to abid by rules or follow team play, in a public server, is going to give 2 shits about a tutorial.. since it's self explanatory in any case.

Forgive me if I've missed the point entirely.

Hey n7snk, Computers can be very difficult to use, but i love to help people who are clearly having trouble navigating this complex and difficult subject. So let me help you. First thing you need to do is click on the start icon in the lower left of your screen(it has a glass like apperance). Then click on the writing that says "All Programs". Now use your middle finger to pull down the wheel on your mouse this will cause the list of programs (programs are things that you use on a computer to do things for example there is a program for making calculations etc etc)to move keep moving the wheel untill you come to text that says steam (steam is a program for buying games if you dont have steam then arma 3 is not on your computer)

Click on the steam text (not on the other text that says "Steam support center" if you do this you will have to restart from the beginning)

Now dont jump out of your seat in surprise your computer is fine, this is what happens when you start a computer program. What you see before you is called a window, it should be dark with many pictures on it. (if its not then start again)

At the top of the "window" you should see the text "library". Click that then look for the text on the left that says "Arma 3". A new window should appear it should be small and have text that says "play" click that. Now your whole screen will go black (dont freak out, this is normal). After a short while you will be able to interact with the game.

Now you should be able to see a box in the lower left with several lines of text on it. This is called a "menu" (here is a helpfull link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menu_%28computing%29 if you find that link a bit over your head dont worry as i am going explain some of its operation) Menus are used in human computer interaction to allow people to choose between differant possible options, they are quite common in computer games so learning to navigate a menu is a usefull skill to have if you wish to play other computer games.(In the computer gaming community we just call them "games")

Ok then lets get started click on the text that says "Field manual". The screen will change and you will see three rectangular areas. This is just what you have been looking for, it is a manual for arma 3 contained inside arma 3. Pretty cool huh? (Computers can store vast amounts of data and the field manual is just data as far as the computer is concerned)

Now click on the text "Multiplayer" in the rectangle on the far left. Now in the center rectangle some more text is displayed click on each item and read the text on the right.

I didnt cover all the uses of menus as it can get quite technical and i didnt want to scare you with to much jargon, we cant all be computer whizz kids.

If you are still having trouble useing your computer there should be introductory computer classes near you or you may have a family member who can help(nothing wrong with asking your parents).I hope this was helpfull.

Maybe it's became so second nature to me over the years, that I think it's trivial, but does changing the chat channels & using push to talk really require an official BI tutorial / video for new players (not sarcasm)?

OF COURSE! Even more when the game is way out of standards with every other game out there when comes to function and key binding.

Going to the Options\Controls or shuffling through a Field Manual shouldn't be the first contact of the players with the, as you said and I agree, fundamentals of the game.

They already made one, i used a website called google to find this

It is also available on the arma 3 game website. Nearly all games have a site that will have information about the game click this link http://www.arma3.com/ to be taken to the arma 3 website.

There is a lot of good information about arma 3 on this page. You should look at this page before posting. Because what you are looking may alreay be available. I find it very helpfull to look at websites before i post in forums, I use google to find websites with information relavent to what i would like to know.

Go on with their new hint system, seems to work. But put them all in one *linear* mission instead of spreading them into those showcases. And add a MP part to it.

And no need to be an ass like in your previous post and the one on the first page.

To be fair though, any player can look into their control options and see how to cycle channels & use comms. Just as with any game, the first thing I usually do to get a feel for how things work, is go into the control options and see what keys do what. You can clearly see you don't even need to cycle channels to use comms, but can actually assign a hotkey for each channel instead, if you prefer. I think at the very minimum, the main channels "side", "global" & "group" are self explanatory.

A tutorial isn't needed when it's common place for any player to go into their controls and get things sorted / figured out.

When I'm on public servers, I meet a fair few players who are new to Arma and have NO idea how the comms channels work. They're not the "headless chickens" of the earlier post, and they're keen to learn how Arma works and appreciative when given a quick run-through. But they're treating Arma like a game they can pick up without doing a full background dossier first. Which means that videos like the above, most in-game tutorials, or info on the website (let alone the wiki) just won't get to them. They're not even aware that the information could exist to be looked for.

I take the OP's point that it would be good to easily and automatically let new players know how comms work. I don't know the best way to do it, though. Perhaps an extension of the Field Manual/Hint system? One where it automatically pops up the multiplayer comms guide the first few times a profile is used in MP? Or once the first time, and then again the next three times they use text chat and/or voice chat?
