Tweaking AI shooting skills

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Can someone help me with altering enemy skills.

I don't want the enemy to be stupid, but when they fire at me I die way to fast, even at long distances.

Are there ANY settings that actual works, so they don't hit you so precise?

Thanks.

setSkill array

You can play around with those values but the one most relevant to your query is aimingAccuracy.

unitName setSkill ["aimingAccuracy", 0.5]

If you set that value low enough, the AI even have trouble hitting you if you're right in front of them, while maintaining a normal rate of fire. aimingShake may also be of use.

Where do i find or put the line "aimingAccuracy" ?

In the init field of the unit for quick and dirty answer.

If you have placed a group only the group leader needs it in the init field.

So this can't be used in showcase missions and the like?

If you are looking to adjust in SP - It is within your Mydocuments - A3 folder - It will be your A3profile - Open it with notepad and adjust enemy skill and enemy precision. (I have enemy skill at .80 and enemy precision at .52

For some reason I always assume people are talking about editor missions if they don't specify. Forget what I said, I was talking about mission editing.

It's nice to know, how to do it in mission editing too :-)

Here is question I've never really had answered - WHen one adjusts their A3. Userproflie (for enemy precision and enemy skill). How does this reflect within the editor. When setting up a mission and you place an enemy unit and give them a rating using the enemy skill slider - Does it simply use your Userprofile setting as the HIGHEST possible skill level and by sliding the adjuster you are simply adjusting that enemy unit from that High starting point.

Basically in userprofile is the maximum possible value the AI can have. So if your userprofile skill value is at 0.6 and your unit skill slider in editor is at 1.0 (full) then your unit actual skill is at 0.6

I have a related question - Can the Mission Maker set skill and accuracy levels independent of the user Settings? I assume this is set somewhere for MP/PvP Missions with AI. I find that sometimes one mission is too easy and I'm like Rambo walking among the bad guys and and then I fire up another mission and get my butt kicked by AI super-enemies in the first minute without changing my settings at all. What could be the source of this type on inconsistency?

Thank you! This will really help me to enjoy more of the SP content!

In "Night" showcase mission i usually get killed from "unimmaginable" distances! :D

Since 1.02 hot fix patch - I don't believe changing your A3Profile (enemy precision, enemy skill) is working in SP - AI enemy all seem like Aimbots again.

Do we know if adjusting userprofile (file). For Friendly and enemy Precesion and Skill. Does this even work (have impact) any longer? For Single Player? I'm really starting to think it has been turned-off as for having any impact. I've set precision enemy to .15 and they are still sniper shots.

I don't know, as I just keep all profile settings to one and adjust via scripting in editor, but you can test using this script and tracking the ai's shots. There should definitely be a very noticeable difference between say .20 and .10. At higher numbers say 1.0 and .9 its hard to see the difference. Test and see if precision no longer works.

I still think a basic confirmation by BIS on if adjusting the userprofile (enemy precision , enemy skill) in SP is currently working would be very helpful. I am playtesting and it would be nice to know if those tweaks within this aspect are working or not. In playtesting it is becoming very hard to tell (while also testing other mods). I do know that taking their precision enemy all the way downt to .15 (while having friendly precision at 1.0) there is NOT much difference and that seems very odd. Should be a huge difference one would assume. Especially when considering BluFor AI Vs Terrorist AI equimpent would give BluFor AI somewhat of an advantage as well. Also with BluFor AI in edtor slider being at 100 (and enemy values on slider being around a 25).

As far as I can tell, precision only affects the speed at which they aim to you. It doesn't seem to affect dispersion which I think is what we are expecting it to do.

Huh?!! if that is the case that explains much and yes, seems kind of odd. I would hope it would alter their accuracy more than timing of how they aim down on you....

I thought it meant how close they have to be to aiming bang on target before firing. So the higher the value the more precise the alignment to target must be negire firing. Not sure now though...

Thats how it was in A2. In A3 Its just pure dispersion (based on my tests only of course). If you look through the ai's view you will see that they always have there rifle on target except after recoil yet there bullets will fly all over the place at lower skills. At .001 it is very common they almost shoot straight up even though their rifle is pointed at you.

Thanks for the info - your playtesting on precision enemy -

I never thought to lower precisionEnemy to that low (did you mean .100) ?? I belive some suggest it should be anywhere from .055 to .075 -

And why is the default number so long such as precisionEnemy=0.33599994 (8 digits??).

No thats using setskill scripting command. I don't know how the precision value in the your profile will effect the ai. And yeah I wouldn't suggest putting ai skill lower than .05.

If I get time I'll do some tests on how the precision effects the ai shooting.

Seems odd that people are setting the precision that low unless they are missplacing the decimal point. I've gone with the recommendations (going back to Arma2) and usually have mine set to around 0.3 to 0.35. Never have issues with aimbots and this sets them at a level that is at least challenging.
