Gens01 10 Posted October 2, 2013 Hi guys, can anybody plz tell me why I am getting drasticaly low FPS playing Arma 3, and how can i fix it, if i can. I have a bit outdated PC but I am able to run all lates FPS shooters with decent graphics and smooth frames, recently i was playing new far cry and metro with high settings. With around 30-50 fps. Arma 3 wich actulay have lesser graphis then those 2 games mentioned, getting famous 5 fps while playing in multiplayer, or single player is around 10-20 fps. Its like that every time I load the mission. No matter what map is running or game mode. I use low settings in resolution 1920 x 1080. All AAS are disabled verry close draw distance etc. Not musch difference betwine high or low settings in my FPS showing. I know that probably have to replace PC for newer one but I didint expect so low FPS on low settings. Its disappointing because i like the game a lot. And money goes to waste beacuse its not playable. Not to mention MP slideshow horror. Here are my spec of rig (with no overclocking): Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ (2 CPUs), ~2.6GHz Available OS Memory: 6142MB RAM DDR2 800mhz DirectX Version: DirectX 11 Card name: ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series ASUS EAH5870/2DIS/1GD5/V2 Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDD: Model: MAXTOR STM3160211AS ATA Device HDD: WD 2500JB External USB Device If you need DXdiag log i will post it for more accurate specification.. I would much appreciate if anyone could solve my problem, at least give me tips or advice how to adjust Arma 3 or system. Thx
Tankbuster 1743 Posted October 2, 2013 Second post like this today. :) Your PC isn't a 'bit outdated'. It's very outdated. Your CPU is 2008 vintage and even then, it was, frankly, rubbish. There is a card that will fix all your woes, though.
RuecanOnRails 10 Posted October 2, 2013 Sad to say, but your rig is getting outdated. The CPU was released in 2006, 7 years ago. Might be time to consider updating. Honestly, you cannot compare Arma to "other" games. Don't use the preset settings, some settings such as shadows will perform better on high/ultra versus low. As it shifts being processed on the GPU on high and the cpu on low. Things to look for in a new build, would be an SSD, 16gb of ram, and flagship, or one model below flagship GPU. I'd recommend looking into another all AMD build, with the announcement of the new Mantle API, an AMD CPU and GPU could get a massive performance boost in games which support it. For GPU, you could pick up a 7970 or 7950 for very cheap as the next generation of GPU's is right around the corner and the 7000 series will have mantle support. You could also Mine Cryptocoins such as Bitcoin/Litecoin using an AMD GPU.
mamasan8 11 Posted October 2, 2013 If someones going to buy a new graphics card, I would suggest they wait a month or so. http://www.techspot.com/news/54182-rumor-nvidia-to-cut-gpu-prices-in-november-to-compete-with-amd.html http://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-radeon-r9-290x-release-date,24465.html The current graphics cards prices will surely drop a lot. Getting a brand new card isn't worth it. You are paying 50-100% more for 5-10% more performance. Same with CPUs.

Im afraid a new graphics card won't fix the issues for Gens01, a new PC is no doubt required.

Otherwise, whats the point in upgrading if you leave the other half of the bottleneck in your computer. And the tip was just mentioned 'in general'. Don't buy now, wait a month, whoever's getting a new gfx card.
desa 10 Posted October 4, 2013 As others have already stated, your rig is really outdated, not just a bit. Arma as well as many of the near future games will be unplayable. In your shoes I wouldn't even bother waiting for "Arma's better optimization" before upgrading it as a whole, I really think it is mission impossible. Unless you re not planning to be gaming much in the future :-)
pr0ph3tswe 1 Posted October 4, 2013 what everyone has been saying already, plus if you are going to upgrade, buy intel cpu for arma as it runs quite bad on amd cpus in general
