Bricktop 0 Posted August 21, 2002 I have searched for answers on this and cannot find any, I have made several maps (and used others) and they all run smooth as silk in SP and in the preview mode. The minute I get into Multiplayer the FPS is down to below 15 and it is very choppy. Why is this? I don't understand. I am hosting on ADSL 7 Mbps, which is definitely enough for the 3-6 people I am hosting. What gives guys. Can someone help me out?? Bricktop
ralphwiggum 6 Posted August 21, 2002 depends on many factors such as how closely AIs are to each other...so it's really hard to tell given little info about your mission and PC spec. anyone else help here plz?
Bricktop 0 Posted August 21, 2002 There are quite a few units in the mission, but none of them are that close together, except in one place. My PC is : Pentium 4 2.53 Ghz 1.5 GB RAM SB Audigy Geforce 4 Ti4600 2 x 120 GB WD HDD etc etc Like I said this ONLY happens in Multiplayer. The m ission runs smoothly in Single Player or Preview. bn880 5 Posted August 21, 2002 Yes, dedicated server is the way to go. Really. Maybe you have some sort of problem with Network Card conflicting with some sound card or something else. ?

Besides of the game there is also commuication and need to decide what should be commuicated. This is especially true for server. This is also main reason why dedicated server option exists, because dedicated server has no graphics to calculate, and it can do communications instead. (The only exception is dual-cpu machine, where running dedicated server could sometimes be slightly better than running normal server). To benefit from increased performance with dedicated server you need a machine dedicated to it.

Harnu 0 Posted August 21, 2002 It also seems that with all these people with super top of the line PC's like his 1.5 GB RAM, always run slow. My 512 DDR RAM and I run quite fine.
