dezkit 28 Posted September 3, 2013 How come not every chopper has a HUD? I mean if you look around using the ALT key you can deduce that the helmet displays the HUD. So why not have the HUD for every chopper?
PantherAl 11 Posted September 4, 2013 Because not every chopper has the hardware setup for a HMHUD. The Littlebird for instance is designed to be as basic a helo as possible; minimal electronics. Some, like transports, have no need for a HUD, which is primarily meant to allow a pilot to maintain awareness whilst focusing on the fight in front of him. If a Blackhawk, or Jolly Green found itself in a fight where the pilot needed it, things are well and truly in the dunny and you can officially call it a day and RTB. ;)
maxton0600 10 Posted September 4, 2013 It is like PantherAI said. Not all vehicles have same equipment installed. Lets give you example from ARMA2. The UH1 helo at US side. It was old type of helo (Vietnam war afaik) so when you flew it you could see HUD (maybe it had to be there for air vehicle) on top left of screen but it had no radar. That meant you had HUD like other new helos (more modern) but you could not see incoming AAs so unless you looked for them (infantry AA speed was slow enought) or had scout wired to you. If you hadn´t then the few stacks of flares you had were useful only as fireworks once you got shot down.
CynicalSaint 1 Posted September 11, 2013 AH-9 pilots are known to mark the glass with a grease pencil for gun impact reference.
