Allow Persistent servers to "Persist" from previous state after update/restart?

When playing a large co-op mission or a capture point game with many players over many days, it is frustrating when having to perform basic server maintenance that require a restart such as an update that progress on the server to be lost upto that point.

Is there any way to workaround this or is it something which could be addressed over time?
