Do you have a chip on your shoulders for 56kers or somthing? .. Jesus. (and yes, I'am a 56ker)<span id='postcolor'>

Well I'm on cable and I still think it was uncalled for, methinks someone wants a job in the bloatware division at Microsoft biggrin.gif Seriously though IMO it's not right to force people to download all that extra crap, 99% will simply want to play with the addon, not sit and watch a movie about it and read loads of stuff smile.gif

And we won't go into the shitty codec that was used with the movies, 4mb for that quality? Not a chance smile.gif

Let me guess you got a joystick right?? Because i dont think you ever tried flying it with keyboard. First time you try to turn you loose control of it and crash. You should try to fix this.

Make a lite version, with links to the videos in the readme...<span id='postcolor'>

I updated the gyrocopter addon. The new version has some bugs fixed.

1) If you retract the gear of the minigun variant on the ground you will get a propper reaction (no more hoovering).

2) You can lock onto air targets with the stinger now.

3)The AI minigun firing skills are improved a bit.

Some other problems remain unsolved (the radar version pilot still does not follow orders. I have no idea why. Single gyro units won't attack properly. They only do it if they work in a group of units, with a commander on the grounds who assigns targets. And the flight behaviour still is the same as for a plane which of course is not correct for a gyroplane. But this I cannot solve since there is no gyrocopter class in OFP yet).

I left the exra information away this time. The filesize is now 4.5 MB.

You can probably download it at http://www.ofp-zone.de, http://www.opflashpoint.org, or www.ofp.info in the next time.

I did not alter the name of the addon file. You simply have to overwrite the old one. This may cause problems if two computers on the net use the same addon but different versions. So try to keep every computer up to date.

Placebo, first of all this extra information is not crap. I personally think it is nice to get some extra information about addons, and I wish more addonmaker would hand out additional information for their addons. Furthermore I spend a lot of time on creating that PDF and searching for those information. You as a moderator should not write something like that. And I'm not forcing nobody to download it. You all are free to not download the addon. After all this is a gift from me to you all. And you should take it like it is or ignore it.

And I had to use such an old video codec since Adobe Acrobat does not support newer codecs with a better quality/compression ratio.

With regards, PSC

Because I'm a moderator I'm not allowed to have an opinion? Bollocks wink.gif

Not like anyone ever listens to me anyways so I don't know why you're upset biggrin.gif

Why use a pdf that's 7mb when a doc file would have done just as well and been a lot smaller? There was no need whatsoever to have music in there either. The movies were extremely poor quality so there's no way they should have been 4mb apiece if you'd used a decent codec. Seeing as you felt it so necessary to include those things surely the least you could have done was to make sure it all ended up being as small as possible.

I would imagine that the large majority of people who downloaded your addon wouldn't have bothered with the extra stuff you included so you prolly wasted your time, also because of the size a lot of people will be put off downloading it, if the addon's any good that's a shame smile.gif

Placebo,

of course you are allowed to have your own opinion. What I meant was, that you could have choosen some other words to say what you mean.

For me it does'nt sound very nice if someone writes that the stuff I was making is crap. I do listen to what you write. At least if I'm interested in a topic that is discussed here. And I guess I'm not the only one.

Well, like everywhere else you can have different opinions on some topics. A text document would have done the same of course. But a PDF like the one I included servers better as a medium to show content. It is better structured, it uses audio and visual content, it looks better, it's more advanced than a simple text document. It is just more comfortable to read than a plain text file. And the internet is developing too. The common bandwith that is available raises. Most of the people of the target group have a better connection than a 56k modem. There is no need to keep the files as small as possible (at least not at all costs). I choose a different example to explain what I think about it. If I have the money to affort a Mercedes I don't buy a Volkswagen. Why should I if the Mercedes is more comfortable at all. And I don't mind if some of the people don't have the money pay for the gasoline. The sittuation would be different if someone would pay me some bucks for an addon that suits for as many people as possible. But thats not the sittuation.

The codec. Well, again. I tried to make it as small as possible. But Acrobat does not support a newer codec with less filesize. I tried Sorensen 3 for instance. The filesize of the movie shrank to 1,8 MB. Unfortunately Acrobat only supports old codecs. So I had no other choice than to use an old codec like cinepak if I wanted the movies to be included (and thats what I wanted).

Don't get me wrong. This topic ain't too importand for me after all. I try not to overestimate it. I just like to discuss a bit about it. After all I'm creating addons mainly for myself because it is fun for me.

With regards, PSC

Yes, I mainly used a joystick and a mouse to test it. But after your post I tried to fly it with the keyboard, and I think it is not too difficult after all. But if you don't have a joystick I would strongly recomment to use the mouse.
