napalm2222 10 Posted July 24, 2013 There are about 6 diffrent options for how you can use your microphone in game, I just don't have the memory to figure out which is set to which. On another note, it seems like no one can hear my mic anyways. Is there a way to test if your mic is working in the game? It works perfectly in Steam settings before I launch the game. Harzach 2517 Posted July 24, 2013 From the Biki: ChannelsThe game uses several different communication channels to make sure you don't get overwhelmed. 'Global channel' - every single player in a session can hear each other using the global channel. 'Side channel' - only players on the same side can hear you in this channel. 'Group channel' - all members of your squad are on this channel. 'Vehicle channel' - everyone on your vehicle's intercom can use this channel. 'Command channel' - all group leaders are on this channel 'Direct communication' - no radio is used here, so only players within voice range will receive these messages. To switch to another channel press either '.' (colon) or ',' (comma).
Larrow 2820 Posted July 24, 2013 (edited) Your options are In multiplayer controls:- Push to Talk (PTT) Voice Over Net talk on: Global Side Command Group Vehicle Direct I personally only use a couple of these, listed here in my personal preference of importance:- PTT in have on a handy button, this option will transmit your voice on the current selected chat channel. Direct on another handy button to quickly talk to anyone in my vicinity. Vehicle for the times i need to communicated clearly with others in my current vehicle. Side to talk to everyone on my side, generally when having a laugh about something or telling a remote squad their friendly firing etc. The first thing i do when joining a game is to use '.' or ',' and change my channel to Group. Generally communication is going straight to my squad mates and I'm using PTT. (as above my chat channel is mainly set to Group) Direct I use to get the persons attention I'm standing next to, no need to bother the whole squad with this. Vehicle is just handy for when I'm jumping in and out of vehicles and need to communicate clearly with the pilot for example. Then in rare occasions i may need Side. Otherwise I just change to the channel I need using '.' or ',' and use PTT. Then switch the channel back to Group. In audio options:- VON - volume level of other people talking Microphone - level of your input All down to personal preference really but its by no means necessary to have them all setup. Only way i know to tell if your mic is working and the level is set ok is to change your chat to either side or global use PTT and ask if people can hear you . EwokVillage 1 Posted July 24, 2013 Since we are on the topic I have always wondered: The gripes and complaints about talking over Global chat, is it because it really DOES lag the game or is it mostly so people arent annoyed with hearing you?
Antigoon 10 Posted July 25, 2013 Since we are on the topic I have always wondered:The gripes and complaints about talking over Global chat, is it because it really DOES lag the game or is it mostly so people arent annoyed with hearing you? No idea about the lag, but people constantly chatting on global, and even blue for that matter, annoys me to no end! The game has a fully working voice chat system, that is incredibly easy to use. I use different keys to talk on different channels, its fully customizable, no need to constantly switch channels with the ";" key.

KingScuba 1 Posted July 25, 2013 (edited) for my settings, i use Push to talk in game, not toggle. I Use the default ./> button to switch to the proper channel. ACRE Settings : Caps Lock TS3 Push to Talk : Mouse 5 (Logitech G500), its a thumb button, Forward Page In Game Push to Talk : Mouse 6 (Logitech G500), Thumb button, Backwards Page In Game Push To Talk : Logitech Extreme 3d PRO - Thumb Button (Usually used for Missles or counter measures I believe) Make sure to use sound recorder program to test if your microphone is active. It's under Start > All Programs > Accessories BTW, the man above is wrong about the VON/Microphone. VON Controls all chat that works through radios (Side channel, Global Channel, etc) Microphone controls the sound of people talking through direct (And incidentally you hear them talking through VON) To Ewok : People get annoyed when some random prick is talking to the entire team/server. It doesn't cause any lag, it's just annoying trying to talk to people in your group when some guy is sitting in side channel just yacking away. Personally I mute them after I ask them to stop using side. I consider it an immersion killer myself. Edited July 25, 2013 by KingScuba
Harzach 2517 Posted July 26, 2013 BTW, the man above is wrong about the VON/Microphone.VON Controls all chat that works through radios (Side channel, Global Channel, etc) Microphone controls the sound of people talking through direct (And incidentally you hear them talking through VON) What in blue blazes are you talking about? VON is the output control for all channels in the Voice Over Network system. MICROPHONE is the input level of your microphone.
