Avean 1 Posted July 10, 2013 I think the ps3 game The Last of Us nailed how movement and combat should be handled in a 3rd person game. Both games dont have jumping but you still can scale stuff you are meant to in The Last of Us, while in Arma 3 it has to be scripted. If you have a small stone in front of you, you have to press the jump button which is just an animation. So you have to stop, jump and then continue running instead of just fluidly jump over it. Same with climbing stuff, you always need a ladder even though there is tons of stuff you could jump up and reach. Also weapon handling is so stiff. When you reload you have to stand still and you cant change weapons on the fly either. Really loved how in The Last of Us anything you picked up is visible on your body and you can reload, change weapons and even bandage yourself up while moving. Really wished the Arma series would move away from the typical scripted events, and have more dynamic animations to what youre doing. It would add so much more to the experience to have more fluid animations and events than the static events going on right now.
Zak757 1 Posted July 10, 2013 I don't think the ARMA 3 engine is capable of that kind of fluidity.
Sneakson 1 Posted July 10, 2013 Step over will be made more fluid probably. You CAN move and reload at the same time and changing weapons while moving will probably be added too soon.
marcai 1 Posted July 12, 2013 I don't think the ARMA 3 engine is capable of that kind of fluidity. I'm rather sure Tomb Raider 2 managed most of these features back in what... '97, was it? I think that any engine that is still used today could replicate something similar with a "climb" button.

EuroSlave 1 Posted July 13, 2013 Hopefully ARMA 3 is the furthest thing from The Last of US 'Really wished the Arma series would move away from the typical scripted events, and have more dynamic animations to what youre doing. ' Could not cringe harder. Of all games to compare to you compare to the most scripted 'cinematic-like' games like The Last of Us that features nearly 0 player involvement. chortles 263 Posted July 13, 2013 That's your own fault for cringing so hard, haha. OP: The main issue I would say is that Arma 3's animation system is... odd, and frankly TLOU benefits from not being a first-person game with optional third-person.
