dale0404 5 Posted July 10, 2013 Hi all, In about 10 minutes the 2013 Ashes series will begin where England take on Australia in Cricket. Now, I am an avid cricket fan and I truly believe that this series could be one of the best for a long time! Ian Botham has been quoted as saying that England will win this series 5-0 and then win the series in Australia (starting in November) also 5-0. I hope he is right but I think it might be a little closer than that lol. So, for all you cricket fans out there, what are your thoughts about the Ashes and the way that things will pan out? jeza 5418 Posted July 10, 2013 Big fan! 5-0 I am not so sure about. It will be very interesting to see how the auzzies deal with not being top dog, well nowhere near top dog, personally I think they are going to put up one hell of a fight. All the off field stuff aside they have a strong squad and Pattinson is rather tasty (and oh look he has just took Cook's wicket!). Good call england to bat, but that wicket could be important, plus im still 50/50 on root's selection I thought Compton would have been the best fit, but hopfully he proves me wrong this innings, that said I still unfortunately have a bad feeling the auzzies may take the first test but plenty of time to come back, have a feeling spin may prove key as series goes on. Come on England :D
sabre 244 Posted July 10, 2013 We will fight it out as that's what we do, but I expect to be soundly beaten, if we manage to steal a test over there with the squad in the state it is in then that will be a win. Won't watch much of it while it's over there, so hopefully they can come into some kind of form near the end to bring back to our summer of cricket and take some of the tests downunder. The rebuild is properly on ;)
jeza 5418 Posted July 10, 2013 Wicket seemed a bowlers dream today, after england I thought most dismissals were due to terrible choice of shot of execution but looking at the auzzies it seems there is plenty of movement in the wicket, conditions should hold, swann still to come ! cozza 24 Posted July 10, 2013 Our cricketers will be busy giving the middle stump to some English women instead......................if you know what I mean
dale0404 5 Posted July 10, 2013 Level pegging today I reckon.

jefferspang 2 Posted July 12, 2013 (edited) Big barmy fan here but I have to say I ached when Agar missed out on his century :( edit - oh god how did Aleem Dar miss Broad's edge :O Edited July 12, 2013 by JeffersPang
jeza 5418 Posted July 12, 2013 Actually wanted him to get it as well. Good batting performance today, I think that actually will give us the first test the way we are bowling.
sabre 244 Posted July 13, 2013 Big barmy fan here but I have to say I ached when Agar missed out on his century :(edit - oh god how did Aleem Dar miss Broad's edge :O Hahah that will go down as one of the all time 'great calls' there. Aleem is all over it. Disappointed Agar didn't get the century, although 98, the highest by a number 11 ever, on debut is nothing to scoff at, was good to see him smiling and laughing it off as you went to the pavilion. Let's hope we've found another long term prospect in him, not another 'flash in the pan'.
dale0404 5 Posted July 13, 2013 4 wickets to get tomorrow, easy!
jefferspang 2 Posted July 14, 2013 (edited) edit - Quite close now, will reserve judgement until the test is over :P Edited July 14, 2013 by JeffersPang
sabre 244 Posted July 14, 2013 I saw it mate :D Dar will be hoping that the Aussies get the win here now that it is this close. ---------- Post added at 23:12 ---------- Previous post was at 22:40 ---------- annnnnd here we go. Oh haha Patto almost cut it on :D ---------- Post added at 23:26 ---------- Previous post was at 23:12 ---------- Haha seriously lame ending. That was the one we had to steal if we were to change the expected path of the series, hopefully I'm wrong but the odd's are still with the England sweep. I do hope I'm wrong though ;)
jefferspang 2 Posted July 14, 2013 ohh yeaah! ^^ Although I was convinced that Haddin didn't edge it, the hotspot looks like it was the sticker from his bat but that's just the low-quality of my tv :P
sabre 244 Posted July 14, 2013 If it was an edge it was the very slight one, was a small spot, there was a noise there. Not disappointed with it, like the Broad one. But still of all possible endings with either team winning, probably the shittest one :D
jeza 5418 Posted July 15, 2013 Got there in the end, think was just about the right call at the end. Just seen England have named an unchanged squad for the second test.
jefferspang 2 Posted July 15, 2013 (edited) Part of me wants to support Australia (being a Aussie citizen aside), they're now the underdog so seeing them win is certainly much more exciting :) It's really sad to see the current squad's such as far cry from the old (Ponting Hussey Katich etc...) lineup edit - 2nd Test Match Oh dear Australia  What a collapse..
