I have most of the mission setup. I have made almost everything for the mission in the editor and the missionTasks, initBriefing, Init and descripton. My friend HKFlash helped me set the first objective up using it. But he has to go to work and wont be back for a week or so. And I am really keen to learn how to use this FSMeditor to complete what I have so far.

Check here. It introduces what an FSM actually is.

Also, you probably don't need FSMs for simple missions. In fact, you can make a ton of missions without ever using them. I would really suggest getting the basics of mission making done first.

Good point. However my mission is already pretty complex. I have been working on it since the day after Beta was released. I have all my objectives writting down. There are just a few more things I need to put in and also do the missionFlow

You could unpack the showcases (using Eliteness or some other PBO unpacker tool) and check how the missionFlow.fsm is structured there. It's not easy to "help out" with it, since you need to know what you are trying to achieve with it.

Just checked, the missionFlow.fsm for the supports showcase is quite small and could serve as a good introduction

yeah I have the one for the helicopters one. I am just not all that sure what it all means. I guess I will wait for HKFlash to come home next week and have him help me again. He is good at explaining it. And he has a copy of my mission so he knows what its about.

Geez, no, the helicopter showcase has some 50 nodes, that's too much. Really, check the support one, it's got 6 or so nodes.

Use Eliteness (download here).

Edit: You also need depbo (just unpack to the same folder you unpack Eliteness to)

Install and run it, and find your Arma 3 directory (c:\Steam\steamapps\Common\Arma 3).

in Addons, you will find missions_f_beta.pbo... double click it. This will unpack it and you can use Windows explorer to check the content

Added info about depbo.dll

That's what I mean initially with "getting the basics" first. Creating missions requires a lot of knowledge about concepts and how to handle them. Starting out with a complex mission isn't a good idea. You really need to start slowly. Trust me, I know how frustrating that can be if there's an idea in your head that you want to make.

Yeah I mean I have learned quite a few things whilst making the mission. There are still a few things left to learn, for example creating conversations between my sqaud and some civilians in a town. And then the missionFlow. If I can get these two things done then my mission will be done. I feel like I am almost finished it. Just these 2 things have put me to a halt. I kind of get the FSM editor and what it does. But am not completely sure what to put in each field on it to make it come together correctly.

One thing to remember is the missionflow FSM thing is 110% optional. We've been making missions without it for more than a decade so there's no reason you need it in every mission. It's main purpose is for things like the showcases where you have a very specific path of very specific actions that need to happen in a very specific order. For just a mission it's a bit over kill and just confuses things for the most part.

lol that is exactly what I need it for mate. One task leads to another task leading to another task and so on. Then near the end my team will split into 2 groups and have 1 new task each that is different to the other groups task.

So? :) Don't need FSM for that. Don't even need to have tasks only visible to half the team. What happens if Team 1 gets killed? Team 2 won't have any idea what they were supposed to do! That's not good planning at all.

You can chain tasks just fine without FSM. You can even do it now with just modules and triggers when before you just needed to use scripts.

No need not to use if it you wanna learn from it for sure, but realize what you're trying to do can be done in many ways so if FSM isn't working don't feed compelled to try to make it work in this case.

I made all my tasks for both teams in missionTasks so they both know (or will know) what to do. I had it setup for the first task using modules but didnt know how to make it so one task was done it would be either "complete" or "canceled" and a new task assigned... Also I dont want all my tasks to be listed in the loading screen or when pressing "m" or "j" and going down to tasks. I just want the initial task there then all other tasks will become apparant as the mission plays out.

even if my own mission doesn't have 50 nodes, i feel a little bit confuse each time i open it back . and it's still very simple.

my advice, the simpler , the nicer. easier to read and upgrade
