It's about these two irish brothers in New York, they're like a good version of the IRA in that they just go around killing people they deem evil, such as Mafia guys, Drug Dealers and pimps, with the help of this Italian Mafia package boy who is a complete fuck up. During their killing spree they are being tracked by a very funny police guy, played by Willem Defoe, who in the end realises that he wants to help these irishmen. Its really cool because they organise the hits, then you see them right before they do it, but then, it shifts like 5 hours ahead when the police are there and you're looking at the crime scene and Defoe goes through his analysis. While he does it you see the action, and the action is wicked. It's not amazingly realistic, but there a lot of guys in balaclava's shooting people with dual berretas, which is always a good thing. Not only that but theres this italian mob boss who says the best pissed off italian mobster thing ever. And to top it all off, it has Billy Connoly as as this hitman who is mental, and he's sent to kill the irishmen (great firefight involving Connoly with 6 guns strapped to his chest), but in the end he realises he is in fact their father or something, and they join forces and go about killing bad guys. The acting in this is amazing, it also has a few pornstars in it (like that short fat guy with the beard who shows up everywhere). The action is top notch, the acting is top notch, the laughs are top notch and it generally kicks ass. You also get to see a (homosexual) willem defoe cross dressing and begging a fat italian guy to fuck him before shooting him. I recommend everyone see's this movie cos it kicks ass<span id='postcolor'> Boondock Saints is one of the best movies I've ever seen! "I can't believe its fucking happened!" "Is it dead?" I want to get it on DVD but can't find it anywhere! Another most underrated movie is Alien 3, I reckon its the best one in the series!

Col. Kurtz 0 Posted July 29, 2002 Paratrooper-Yeah Stalingrad and Das Boot are great too. But not underated. Well, when people think WW2 movies, they think SAVING PRIVATE RYAN! And yes, I AM SICK OF TRASHY HOLLYWOOD GOD BLESS AMERICA WAR MOVIES. Thats why Enemy at the Gates was good. Sure, the Russians had british accents, but it was really well done, and is based on fact. That Russian Sniper really lived. Just like Saving Private Ryan is based on fact. The Ryan was Sgt. Niland and he had lost two bothers and had a third MIA. But instead of a great adventure to get him, he was simply picked up in a car and driven to the air port from the front line. Now dont get my wrong, I like good American war movies, but I get sick of the standard Delta Force/Green Berets/Marines/Navy SEALS going to stop the nuclear bomb stolen by the fanatical Islamic terrorists. It get borring. Bit like Tom Clancy books because the Americans alway win at the last moment due to some lucky piece of infomation they came across.

Another most underrated movie is Alien 3, I reckon its the best one in the series!<span id='postcolor'> It JUST came out in the US on DVD about 2 months ago. I found it sitting in the Fry's bargin bin with such other classics as "Deep Rising" and "Navy Seals". Also, when I first saw this topic name, I came in here fully expecting to write about "Boondock Saints", but it's been quite well represented thus far My only addition to this list would have to be "Grosse Pointe Blank." It was a bit more mainstream than most of the movies mentioned here (Like "Zero Effect", which I actually had the pleasure of seeing on the big screen during its approx. 3 day run.), but it GPB is an absolutely hilarious movie. Oh, and "Dark City"....good stuff.
Longinius 1 Posted July 29, 2002 "Hardware" was pretty underrated (except in some communities of course). I mean, any movie with Lemmy in it gotta be good. "Red Dawn" too, I reckon (all though it doesn't have Lemmy in it).

Longinius 1 Posted July 29, 2002 "i hope you are not talking about the one with PAtrick Swayze as a highschool student fighting against Russian invaders in US territory...." Yep, that's the one. Considering when it was done, the budget, the stuff they used (tanks, helicopters, weaponry) and the fact that it was done with at the time fairly unknown actors I'd say its pretty underrated. ralphwiggum 6 Posted July 29, 2002 i saw it when it came out(early 80s?) and was not impressed too much except for all those guns and stuff. but it kinda gives me creeps cuz it is in some sense, "USA #1" like Rambo sequels.
Longinius 1 Posted July 29, 2002 "but it kinda gives me creeps cuz it is in some sense, "USA #1" like Rambo sequels." Its nothing compared to blockbusters like "Saving Private Ryan", "Independence Day" and "Armageddon". Red Dawn has little to no flag waving, and its not about America saving the world. Its about America saving itself. Not much of the "We are the greatest!" talk either for that matter. I rather enjoy it, even to this day. Sure, it didnt win any Oscars but I doubt anyone involved in the project thought it would either.
ralphwiggum 6 Posted July 29, 2002 maybe...but i haven;t had chance to see it again since then..maybe I'll rent it again next weekend and reevaluate my stance. but sad thing is that a few scenes I remember are: 1)patrick swayze running out of the classroom. 2)taking ammos from one of their parent's shop, while the father says "don't mess up the shelves! take it clean(so that they don't know it)". 3)2 guys making a small enclosed hideout, and lure russian soldiers into that diection, and when the bait(girl) passes by, they comeout and mow down Russians chasing her. 4) when the girl was climbing the cliff, using crossbow to pick them out. 5)throwing hand grenade right in to open hatch and blowing it. 6)scene of some ppl in middle of town, behind fence and Swayze talking to his father. it's just that by using imaginary scenario that has little chance, if any of happening, and trying to promote strength of US through it. using imagination to reinforce patriotism. Longinius 1 Posted July 29, 2002 "1)patrick swayze running out of the classroom." Nope. Swayze isnt in the school. Charlie Sheens character is though. "2)taking ammos from one of their parent's shop, while the father says "don't mess up the shelves! take it clean(so that they don't know it)"." Don't remember that one... He says something to the effect of "dont mess around with that food, take the dry stuff" telling them to not take fresh food that will go rotten, but take food that will last. "3)2 guys making a small enclosed hideout, and lure russian soldiers into that diection, and when the bait(girl) passes by, they comeout and mow down Russians chasing her." More than two actually. They have three covered holes dug with one to two guys / hole. Rather smart. "4) when the girl was climbing the cliff, using crossbow to pick them out." No crossbow. Regular bow. "5)throwing hand grenade right in to open hatch and blowing it." Hey, they are American football players. What do you expect? "6)scene of some ppl in middle of town, behind fence and Swayze talking to his father." That would be the mushy scene where Swayze and Sheens characters meet their dad at the drive-in brainwashing camp. "America is a whorehouse where the revolutionary ideals of your forefathers have been corrupted and sold out." Always made me smile somewhat, hilarious

Longinius 1 Posted July 29, 2002 Did a small check on Red Dawn for kicks over at imdb.com and found this: - The plot for the movie, a Russian invasion from Mexico, etc., was based on CIA and War College studies of US weaknesses at the time. - The movies replica Russian T-72 tank was such a precise replica that when it was transported to the studio, two CIA agents followed and wanted to know where it had come from. - This film was entered into the Guinness Book of Records as having the most acts of violence of any film up to that time. Major Fubar 0 Posted July 29, 2002 Then of course there are those rare gems in the fantasy genre that manage to shine through the d-grade rubbish: - Willow - Dragon Slayer - Excalibur - Sword and the Sorceror - Legend
Longinius 1 Posted July 29, 2002 But was Willow really underrated as such? I seem to remember it being fairly popular across the board.
