nikluto 0 Posted July 28, 2002 Ok. Can someone explain to me how to properly ambush something? In the original OPF im on the mission where you sneak up on the enemy camp in the forest, neutralize the BMPs, call for reinforcements and attack the infantry. I clear the valley no problem. But i order my guys to be silent, to crawl and to hold fire, then I order my two rocket guys to target bmp (get no response, so I try somethin else) i tell em to engage the bmps, they automaticly shoot. how do I make it so they target and get ready to fire, but dont actually do so until i order them? Its so frustrating for me, i dunno. i also notice my guys slacking off and not shooting the damn enemies that THEY call out to me...any help would be appreciated.. Thank you Nick
FSPilot 0 Posted July 28, 2002 Hmmm, I think if you select them, then right-click on what you want them to target, it should work. They'll come back with "ready to fire" when they have a good bead on it, then you give the "fire" command (or tell them to engage, whatever)
Greg 0 Posted July 28, 2002 I still occasionally have issues with controlling vehicles when I am not the commander, but sometimes when a mission starts, the troops move about on their own so I have to select 'Engage' and then 'Disengance' from the menu. Then 'Move' and 'Return to formation'. In your case, you may just need to use 'Engage' 'Hold Fire' and then 'Engage' 'Open Fire' later when the enemy is ripe for ambushing. Spy17 1 Posted July 28, 2002 I think if you select hold fire, engage at will and then target... it should work. They should approach without opening fire.
grey 0 Posted July 28, 2002 no no when your men are on hold fire mode and u right click on a tank they will take the shot :/ i think this is because right clicking on something gives the order "engage" and not plain "target" what u should do is this put all your guys on hold fire all soldiers bar rocket soldiers should be ordered to the floor. but rocket soldiers should be kept on "keep low" cos if they are forced on the floor they cant fire their rocket launcher. set up your guys around the place, when the tanks come along use the menu to target them.. eg select rocket soldier (eg F2) then use menu 2 and select the bmp or whatever from the menu. u should see him whip out the rocket launcher and say "ready to fire" but he wont fire until u give the "open fire" command to everyone good luck i find a well set up ambush in opf is one of the greatest things about the game and gives me great satisfaction when i pull it off without taking any losses
dayglow 2 Posted July 28, 2002 Yeah, if you click on a target they will fire even if they are on hold fire, damn anoying that is, but the target menu works fine. I just don't like it because if I'm ambushing a convoy I want the front and back attacked first and I can't do that in the menu. COLINMAN
BAM 0 Posted July 28, 2002 When my men are on 'hold fire' and I right click on an enemy unit, they keep holding their fire and come back with 'ready to fire' for me.... I know the ambush engagement thing was definetly messed up in the original OFP, but its definetly fixed for Resistance. In the case where I have a guy on hold fire, then right click on an enemy for him to target which is out of his view, he wont respond, so at this point i just tell him to engage and he will get into a firing position himself then tell me when hes ready, I can then tell him to open fire with the fire command... works fine. The only slight prob is that sometimes when he is engaging himself he will go too close to the enemy before saying hes ready. BAM.
Skulleye 0 Posted July 28, 2002 I think right clicking means target and left clicking means engage.
grey 0 Posted July 29, 2002 the menu's not that bad for targetting, if u are approximately side on to the convoy u can look directly at its middle and get the left and right most vehicles by looking at the clock value tho it is a bit annoying but u get used to it
Benze 0 Posted July 29, 2002 Tell them to hold fire but put them on "engage." Never put your troops on "engage at will," then they will break formation to try to engage, and that is a very bad thing, they try to go all rambo and run towards the enemy by themselves blindly, instead of working as a team. Anyways, hold fire, engage, keep low, danger, and tell them to face the direction of the enemy through the "engage" menu. If you do all this, and tell individual soldiers to TARGET (right click) and not ENGAGE (left click), you can give the command to open fire (All, go go go! and the enemy will totally be slaughtered. EBass 0 Posted July 29, 2002 Coming at you from Sunny Crete!! In an internet cafe. What ya have to do is right click on the taget to get them to taegrt it but not shoot. Its also useful to begin an ambush to tell the rocket solkdiers to attack a target by seletcing em and clicking on a target they will fire untill its destroyed and then stop. its a very good way to start an ambush as it ensures no one else opens fire but the main threats are prioritised
Hidden 0 Posted July 30, 2002 I did the "Engage at will" bummer the other day. We were laying down, and I turned around to check my men´s positions.. ?? Where did they go? Needless to say, they were cut down without much resistance. The ambush became a "Here we are, kill us!" party. I feel guilty as my men had to die for me to learn that lesson (not really, it is just a game after all)
