bogart 10 Posted May 24, 2013 Hi, I would like to have some advices for a tank I would like to buy on a site but I don't know if it works into ArmA 2 the model is this one: http://www.fallingpixel.com/k2-black...3d-model/30761 Polycount: 98249 Vertices: 91750 I know that someone uses the proxy method but I prefer to have an expert advice. thanks Matt
max power 21 Posted May 24, 2013 Your link isn't working... On the outset, the max polycount you ought to be shooting for per object is around 20k. This means you would need to find a way to split the object into 5 parts. It seems like it would be a lot of hastle.
PuFu 4600 Posted May 24, 2013 correct link (based on polycount) http://www.fallingpixel.com/k2-black-panther-tank-3d-model/30761 One could use that as a base mesh, and clean up the wheels, tracks, mirrors and other thing to reduce polycount. The main hull and turret seems to have a decent polycount, while all the others are a bit overdone and could easily be reduced or replaced with textures. That said, although i see it has "textures = yes", i am pretty sure the thing is not unwrapped. if you ask me, waste of 140 $ (although the model is decently priced at that level of accuracy). You could go a bit above 20k if you know what you are doing. As a rule of thumb 20-22k tris should do the trick. Vertices, i never know or count them. If you don't know what unwrapped is, maybe it is better not to spend 140$ on a 3d model that you can't fix or get in the game. Maybe is wiser to start one yourself (although not a small task), and see how that goes. Or if 140$ is penny cash for you, you might want to familiarize yourself with the basics of 3d modelling and textures. Oh, by the way, UV unwrapped mixed means he used basic shapes via UV Map modifier to get the textures in place, but it is by no mean the way to go for a model aimed for a real time engine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cube_Representative_UV_Unwrapping.png
