Aculaud 0 Posted July 25, 2002 I'm wondering if the Laser Designator has a limited range or not. I tried lazing a target that was a thousand meters away from me, and the plane didnt bomb it...Anyone know whats up?
r71 0 Posted July 25, 2002 I have not done many test for that range part. I think as long as you can see the dot on the target it will work. I will test this when I have someone to go over it with me, because you know how ghey the AI can be at times.
Kep Kelagin 1 Posted July 25, 2002 I think I saw in one of the other topics on this forum, that the effective range is 300 meters, but I am not sure though.
canukausiuka 1 Posted July 25, 2002 I've painted targets well over 300m and w/o a dot, and had them hit, so those aren't the limits (althought they may be a good indicator of when you are getting too far). I don't know what the maximum range is though, I wasn't 1000m away, more like 500-600.
FSPilot 0 Posted July 25, 2002 the laser designator should be LOS with infinite range (being a laser), but the LGB itself should have a range. the LGB's range would depend on the angle, altitude, and speed of the aircraft dropping it. remember, the designator points out the target for the bomb, the plane drops the bomb. Aculaud 0 Posted July 27, 2002 Iv had it bomb targets for me at ranges above 600 meters, and i dont recall seeing a dot. There were enemy tanks that i was targeting though. When i tried it at 1000m, i was just aiming at the ground. Dont see how that could make a difference though, cause iv aimed at the ground at shorter ranges, and its bombed for me...
