ArchangelSKT 0 Posted July 24, 2002 Well I`m going to buy a new computer, but I don`t want to buy a " top of the line " since I`m a student and I won`t have that much time to play games....so I`m planing to get something like a 1.43 ghz Amd and 512mb with MAYBE a gf4 4200 128mb...my question is since I don`t know that much about comps...what will be the bottleneck and the 1rst component I have to upgrade among these 3 , and how long do you think I can handle games without having to think about upgrading ? Thanks
MDRZulu 0 Posted July 24, 2002 I guess the cpu would be the first thing to bottleneck unless when you upgrade there is a new cpu that needs special or new ram then I guess you would have to do both but I think that video card will last you a long time, I just recently got rid of my voodoo 5500 mostly because games werent supporting it anymore. BoonieRat 0 Posted July 25, 2002 is a 1.46 a 1600+?. if so get a 1800+ instead. get a VIA 266 mobo(abit make 1 of the best) with some samsung/Crucial 2700DDR to go with it. you can pick up some dirt cheap Gf3Ti500's if you look for them too...then again a Leadtek 4200 is not much more Å$$Å%. make sure you get a good HSF though. ThermalRight are still the Bogs Dollox ...

Jester983 0 Posted July 25, 2002 Like MRDzulu said. The CPU will probably be the first to upgrade. Not right away of course. But heck if you have the extra money go 1.7 or 1.8. That way you wont have to upgrade for quite some time. Possible 2 years or so. Depending on how much technogoly becomes advanced.
BoonieRat 0 Posted July 25, 2002 Where you at?. USA?.UK?. anyone know some good retailers?... Personaly I think the V~card will be the first to go!. I've upgraded CPU/mobo's once. but Video cards I've been through four!. started with an ATi 128rage, went to Gf2MX, Gf2pro,currently@Gf3Ti500. Games are always made for tomorrows technology nowadays!.WTF is wrong with todays tech?.eh!??... If you can afford it get the best you can, or..., if you can get the best you can afford ... I always try to stay a step behind the current with V~cards, cause they're too damn expensive. same with CPU's. my next(soon I hope! CPU will be an XP 2000+. they're down to almost Å100 now. a VIA 333 mobo is next too, but these are cheap enough to go for the best. Abit KX7 is topping my list at the moment along with Corsair XMS3000@Cas2, 256MBx2 for memory. A DangerDen AMD Maze2,2 and Gf H20 block are there as well ...
