Smaa, fxaa?????

Recommended Posts

Greetings everyone, google was not very helpfull when i searched "Arma 2 How to enable FXAA" (or SMAA)

So I come here, many of the tuts said its in your config thing, i found it, opened it, see a bunch of options but no SMAA or FXAA (or i am just blind)

I launch my game through WithSix and i noticed alot of people have the SMAA/FXAA options in their ingame video options, i dont?

So my question is, how do i enable it?

I have a Gforce (Nvidia) video card, Help :/

All advice/Tutorials will be appreciated.

Then you should definitely find the option either in the video option settings ingame or your Arma 2(OA) .cfg file which is under your documents. The cfg file contains lines like these:

language="German";
adapter=-1;
3D_Performance=93750;
Resolution_Bpp=32;
Resolution_W=1920;
Resolution_H=1080;
refresh=60;
winX=5;
winY=30;
winW=1269;
winH=948;
winDefW=1269;
winDefH=948;
Render_W=1920;
Render_H=1080;
FSAA=2;
postFX=0;
GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000;
GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=3;
HDRPrecision=16;
lastDeviceId="";
localVRAM=2131959808;
nonlocalVRAM=1857810432;
Windowed=0;
vsync=1;
AToC=0;
FXAA=8;
PPAA=3;
PPAA_Level=3;
serverLongitude=51;
serverLatitude=9;
class ModLauncherList

Perhaps you have changed some settings in your NVIDIA panel?

But yeah, go ahead and just try to add it there and see what happens.

Ok, so i found out this:

With Anti aliasing disabled, everything is smooth (As if it is enabled) which means one of them worked...Second is there is no motion blur which is normaly caused by FXAA, which is rather worrying. Also, is there anyway to make shrubs not kill your FPS? I will also see what i can do in the panel.

Nothing seems wrong with the panel, i tried turning FXAA on within the panel, will see if it does something.

FXAA in nvidia control panel did nothing...except make HUD blury.

Also, i dont understand why I dont find those options in the ingame menu.

Motion blur is part of the post-process settings and not bound to FXAA. And yeah you can disable the normal AA and replace it with FXAA or SMAA.

It's really strange you don't see the option in your ingame meu. can you post a screenshot?

yeah that doesn't work. if you have it on steam, you can use steam's screenshot feature or just download a trial version of fraps or some other capturing tool.

Uhm, sure...i will do something about it...

But for now, i can see everything untill i reach HDR and Anti aliasing (ofcourse i see the blur motion thing options too)

It looks as if there is space for another line of options, but they are empty.

PPAA replaced the FXAA/SMAA in config file, as it's now Post Process Anti Aliasing

If you beta up your ingame menu should look like this. If you don't want to beta up then you have to get into your game configs and do it in there..

FXAA for me, as here, is what I like, although its nice to check each out..

Sorry, it was a bit vague wasn’t it. I mean bring your game upto the latest Beta patch rather than just the most recent official game patch. There are drawbacks of course using the beta, it is work in progress i.e. upto the next game patch release, so may be unstable now and then..

I always run the latest beta’s when playing, but its not to everyone’s taste.

Beta here. (it will alter your in-game menu as well). Be sure to read up before using the beta, just to make sure you want to use it, search on the forum here, there's lots about it.:)
